About this project
Weekend in Rokugan is the "home" convention for the largest living campaign focused on the Legend of the Five Rings world. This is the third iteration of Heroes of Rokugan, which has attracted thousands of players from around the world to take part in a collaborative storytelling and gaming experience like none other.
However, while the campaign has always been free to play, the costs of running the show have gone up as time has gone on. This year, we're in a nicer hotel, which is great! But it costs more, which is less great. Normally, samurai would not concern themselves with lowly matters of commerce, but in this case, the cause is worth it!
This is the fifth and final Winter in Rokugan convention for Heroes of Rokugan III. We'd love it if you joined us!
For those that answer the call, we have some pretty cool goodies to offer as a thank you reward. Just to be perfectly clear, most of these reward levels reward pledgers with certificates and other advantages that benefit them in the Heroes of Rokugan 3 campaign. (Sorry, we don't have any actual nemuranai to give out.)
For $25, you get a full-weekend pass to Weekend in Rokugan, plus a customized laminated character aid. In case you already have the handy table tent, you can instead get a laminated Heroes of Rokugan character sheet, or a reference card with setting information. We expect a full pass to run $25 on its own, so this is a free bonus for those who support the Kickstarter!
At the $50 level, you get the full-weekend pass to WiR, the custom laminated table tent, and the Dreams of Destiny cert, which does the following:
This Cert awards the following:
You may destroy this cert for one of the following effects:
• Re-roll any failed roll
• When your PC takes enough damage to kill them,
they are instead left with their Out Wound Rank full.
(This is identical to using the Great Destiny Advantage.)
They are, however, left with the Permanent Wound Disadvantage.
• You may ignore any Wound Penalties for one Round, including Down and Out.
In addition, if this cert isn't used in HoR3, it carries over to Heroes of Rokugan: The Nightmare War. In addition, you'll have the thanks of the Empire for helping to make this event a reality.
At the $90 level, you get the full-weekend pass to WiR, the laminated character aid, and the Dreams of Destiny cert. In addition, we're offering these limited edition character folders. They've got a three-ring binder, a note pad, a space for all your mod sheets, a storage bag, and a calculator. An indispensable accessory for the HoR player, and something that you'll use for campaigns to come!
At the $125 level, you'll get everything from all the earlier tiers, plus one of twenty unique nemuranai certs, created just for this event, for one of your characters. These were a huge hit last year, and Cory's got a new batch ready to solve (and cause) problems for your characters again. These will be limited to 20, and first-come-first-serve at the event.
We know many players will not be able to make it to Winter in Rokugan, but still want to support the campaign in a big and impactful way, so we created this tier with those people in mind. For this tier, we will ship the rewards anywhere in the US with our gratitude!
At the $150 level, you'll get everything from the Gunso tier and below, plus a custom Haori, sewn by Molly Poole, working with you as a player to decide what mon you wish made on it. Whether the mon is sewn or painted will depend on what the complexity is. If you want examples, think of the haori of Chris Ward's Lion costume, the new Mantis mon on Monjoni's coat, or the infamous Pink Pony haori, made for Ethan, several years ago.
Please note, this does not come with the Nemuranai cert.
At the $200 level, you'll get everything from all the previous tiers, plus you'll have a chance to play in"The Monster At The End Of This Mod" or "Hope in Shadow", a limited edition mod that's only been run a handful of times. As such, it's limited to one table's worth of players from this tier, plus those who pledge to a tier above!
For five lucky players, this is the ultimate mod reward. Cory will take your character's background and story information, and create a brand-new custom mod, exclusively for your characters. This mod will be run once and once only, and will be tailored to the players at the table.
Our interactives are the highlight of the convention experience for many, and while anyone can participate, some of our players take it to the next level in terms of costuming to create an awesome, immersive experience. One of our top costumers, Kay M., has volunteered to create a complete costume for one of our lucky backers. She did this last year, and just check out the results!
After the Kickstarter is complete, she'll take your measurements and descriptions of what you're looking for, and make a one-of-a-kind set of clothing for you. (She'll even teach you how to put it on. An obi is serious business.)
And of course, this includes everything in lower tiers, including the amazing custom mod. As the fortunes command.
If the campaign hits $5000, Cory has arranged for John Wick (the original writer for the game) and Rob Hobart (the current head of the rpg development) to come as special guests. Specific programming will be announced later, depending on player interest, but both are eager to talk about the game that we all love!
If it hits $7000, we will include a catered dinner Friday night for anyone who contributed at the $50 amount or higher to the Kickstarter.
If we can get $8000, Cory has found a portable projector for the campaign to use at conventions. This will help organize tables, track time, and display images for interactives (maps for the battle interactive, for example).
To that goal, we have added an Add On, and another small tier.
We will have black t-shirts with the Heroes of Rokugan symbol like the notebooks have, in silver, available for an additional $25. At this time, we can't include international shipping with the t-shirts. If you can't come, but know someone who is, we can make arrangements for them to pick up the shirt for you though.
There may be more as we get through the month, so watch this box!
Risks and challenges
Putting on a show like this is a big deal, even though Cory and the admins make it look easy sometimes. But just doing what has been done in the past isn't enough - we really want to make this convention the biggest and best Weekend in Rokugan yet. Still, with the support of our players, the admin team, and our awesome GM's, I'm confident we can create an experience to remember.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
