VIA Artistica is an art venture in the Mount Tabor neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. Kirsten Carpentier, Pam Jacobs, Laurel Swetnam and Maggie Maggio know that making art makes us happy. Our goal is to create a space dedicated to artistic expression - a place that will allow people to expand their horizons though playing with art and sharing experiences with others. We believe creating art together can build community.
We hope to create a hands-on teaching studio and urban art retreat space where adults can rediscover art, energize their creativity, and enhance their well-being by exploring art materials and learning new skills in a friendly and encouraging environment.
We plan to renovate and transform a former Sunday School classroom into a welcoming and bright studio, and launch our VIA programs in October of this year. Our first quarter calendar will include Afternoon Art Retreats, VIA Collaborative Classes, Weekend Workshops and Open Studio Time.
Funds from the Kickstarter project will allow us to repair and repaint the walls and build cabinetry for the supplies. In addition to refurbishing the room, we need a generous supply of high quality art materials, including paints, canvas, paper, brushes, and sculpture tools. We will also need specialty supplies for two of our educational focuses: color exploration and the promotion of polymer clay as an art form.
We invite you visit our website and ask you to support our project!
Where the money will go:
· Painting the space, including repairs, equipment & paint $450
· New and expanded cabinetry $830
· Sculpturing tools and polymer clay materials $650
· Canvases, paper, brushes $420
· Acrylic Paints, oil pastels and watercolors $350
· Administrative fees for Kickstarter & Amazon $300
Total = $3,000If we raise more than $3000, the additional funding will go toward environmental improvements to make the space more comfortable in all seasons.
