A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
What an amazing trip it has been! And it just keeps getting better.
In the spring of 1988, while attending the University of Western Ontario, I launched Grubwear Clothing Co. & hit the streets, shops and campuses across Canada in a venture to create a streetwear/action sports clothing brand that was irreverent, distinct, grass-roots and cool. After 30 years, I think it's safe to say, I did it.
My infamous TRI-G logo has led me around the world with endless amazing life experiences. After launching Jackson Snowboards in 1991, I moved west to Vancouver (in a van, with my dog Memphis, pulling a U-Haul) only to open THRILLER, my first venture into retail…what a journey!
After 18 years in retail and a few subsequent incarnations, I find myself celebrating 30 years of independent business and would not change a thing. I want to share that with you!
Suffice to say I could not have made it here without endless support from family, partners, friends, customers, retail shops and especially all the TEAM RIDERS who rode our decks - many and most I am still tight with! Without you, I'm nothing….so THANK YOU!!!
I wanted to create a Kickstarter campaign to celebrate this milestone.
By offering a limited edition production run of Jackson 'STACK' Snowboards with amazing value packed support rewards, we think this campaign will skyrocket and bring our grassroots movement back together. Please watch this video that Moonrider Productions prepared for us and DROP IN!
(REWARDS NOTE - We will post digital pics of each reward package, shortly after the campaign ends. We want to make sure you get the right product, color and size of your preference)
TopSheet: Glossy PBT. We do not add toxic lacquer for these boards.
Top Fibreglass: Biaxial fiberglass.
Woodcore: Full length Canadian Aspen wood core.
Sidewall: We use state of the art Urethane that runs the whole Perimeter of the wood core for a perfect bond. Urethane is extremely damp and makes for a better over all ride.
Entropy Resins: Entropy Resins makes thermoset epoxy systems for a new generation of products. Products that not only perform, but also take a crucial step towards lowering our impact on the environment.
Inserts: Stainless Steel. Two 12 packs per mount.
Bottom Fibreglass: Biaxial fiberglass.
Rubber Dampening: Rubber foil between the edge and fibreglass helps with bonding. It also helps with over all board chattering.
Edge: Rockwell 48.
Base Material: Sintered IS 7500. Super durable and fast base material.
Risks and challenges
With the exception of the actual manufacturing of the Stack series boards, I've designed and will produce all the rewards myself. This is what I have done for 30 years as my passion. No brainer and I AM STOKED! I will be participating in the production of the boards myself.
As a small brand (JACKSON), we always got pushed around and bounced, eventually causing me to cease production in 2010 (read as RUN OUT OF MONEY).
By securing production time and with a rock solid expense budget, once funding is complete we have ear-marked time with WIRED Snowboards in Vancouver. In brief, the creator of Wired is no other than Rob Dow, who has 25 years of experience in the snowboard industry from design to production and marketing all the while bring a respected professional rider for more than 10 years. Rob has seen it all….Legend status.
Fulfilment of the smaller rewards and day trips will be both easy and a pleasure. My goal of raising $5,000 will cover the deposit for production of boards and rewards with padding to initiate new projects and more board production should I find myself getting orders. Should we get support for more boards, we'll make more boards. We're making 30 boards no matter what goes down here. :)
Here's the only problem I see - if we get support for more than 50 boards, production time will run past opening day. I don't want this to happen unless a supporter is OK with it. I want to keep production local, organic and in my control.
There will be forthcoming details for boards custom made to spec for those that desire it, but we will have limitations. (existing WIRED shapes and sizes, cores, and finishes).
All snowboards come with a one year warranty for manufacturer's defects.
