Now let me explain a bit about CLIPY. CLIPY is a iPod nano 6th generation accessory. I wanted a product which combines an Apple iPod Nano and its headset cord all in one object. It’s really important, when creating a unique design like this, for a product as beautiful as the iPod Nano, that the device compliments or even enhances the overall look when they are put together.
After designing, building and testing dozens of prototypes, it was then that CLIPY's final design was settled. Using 3D printing techniques such as Stereolithography SLA, I was able to quickly make modifications and test the impact of my changes.
After researching how people use their headphones and where to store them, I then discovered several common workarounds on how the users regularly wrap the headset cord around the iPod nano, coiling the wire around fingers and putting it in a bag or pocket (only to dig it out later to find it fully tangled) or surrendering to the chaos, stuffing the wad of tangled earphone cords somewhere and hoping for the best.
I think CLIPY untangles the headphone cord predicament. Wrap your earbud cords without skipping a beat.
When you're done using your earbuds, simply wrap them around CLIPY and pop your earbuds in to the right and left hole.
CLIPY is always at hand, since it lives on the back of your iPod Nano. CLIPY keeps your cords neat and secure, whether in a bag, backpack or your pocket.
To unwind the earbuds, simply place 1 finger on each side of CLIPY and pull. Within seconds you will have your earbuds unwound neatly and ready for your listening pleasure.
No mess, no fuss. A hassle free solution.
CLIPY can even be used as a bedside clock with the nano's changeable theme clock to suit your sleeping environment.
CLIPY was designed so that even when the iPod nano is clipped in, it can be easily charged.
CLIPY will me made of injection moulded plastic. I have my manufacturer lined up and ready to begin production.
I have been working closely with manufacturers and packaging companies to ensure CLIPY will be a quality product with a beautiful package to compliment.
CLIPY will come in two standard colours Black and White.
A Kickstarter only limited edition, transparent Green.
Finally, My very own special edition colours, transparent Red, Blue and Orange.
My Goal – It’s my true wish to release CLIPY to the world and bring this innovative product to market for everyone to enjoy. I am so excited about this process of making and designing products that I want to share it with you, the user.

A little bit about CLIPY, how and where it will be made:
CLIPY will be manufactured from high grade injection molded plastic, using injection mold process by an internationally renowned manufacturing company in China. Once funding goal is reached, my CAD/CAM drawings will be sent to the manufacturers in order for them to create a mold, which will be made by the mold maker from steel and precision machined in order to form all the main features in and around CLIPY. Once the mold is ready, it will go through the manufacturing process. To summarise, pelletized raw material is fed through the injection mold machine (through the hopper) and a screw turns and feeds the material while being heated through into the mold, where the plastic will take its final form inside the highly polished / machined steel mold for CLIPY.
The company that will be responsible for CLIPY's manufacture is a well known established company renowned for their quality worldwide, with two major awards under their name (Red Dot Good Design Award & IF Design Award). When it comes to choosing a manufacturer, it is key for me to have quality, precision and schedule at the foremost of my design manufacture ethos. CLIPY will be manufactured in one of their many plants in Asia (China plant).
Manufacturing Plan for CLIPY:
Clipy will be manufactured in Hong Kong, China.
(Timing is conservative and some of these items are concurrent).
After reaching my funding goal:
1. Transferring CAD data into first prototype tooling data: 2 weeks.
2. Cutting of first prototype tooling with any necessary revisions: 2 weeks.
3. First generation prototype review and testing: 1 week.
4. Final production tooling of manufacturing: 3 weeks.
5. Packaging construction: 3 weeks.
6. Air freight from HK / southern China to Oregon, Baker City (our US partner): 14 days plus 3 days to clear customs.
7. Shipping to end consumer / retail outlets: 2-7 days by local courier or general freight not including rail transit (US ONLY) (International shipping will take 5-14 working days, depending on location).

Based on the plan above, expect shipping by January 2013.
