This is the Kickstarter to fund the printing of Purgatory Pub: Book 3, the 3rd installment in a 4 book graphic novel series about the Afterlife.
This story is about an unlikely friendship between an angel from Uptown and a demon from Downtown who meet in the middle (Midtown) and share drinks, share laughs, and talk about how much fun it would be to be in a band.
It also follows the relationship between the archangel Michael and his closest and biggest brother Lucifer, whom he looks up to.
It's essentially a story about friendship, brotherly love, and heart break. Also, booze and cigars play a big role.
In Book 1, we met all of the characters, drank in the pub, saw what Lucifer was like before "the fall," and we went to a heavy metal concert in hell. It was great.
In Book 2, we learned what makes Angel want to leave what is supposedly paradise just to relax. And with Michael and Lucifer, we got to see how volatile that close bond between brothers can become.
In Book 3, Our Heroes return after their first foray into splitting a "mark" and immediately get back to their old shenanigans. Starting their experimental electro-pop band in a dingy practice space, and drinking and smoking in the pub.
One conflict, however, hits a fever pitch the way it never has before in this series. How big? Here's a taste:
In addition to Our Heroes getting back up to their old shenanigans, we meet a new character in the afterlife. A fellow who's not sure exactly what happened or where he just woke up.
The mark that they split: Frank.
Here's his introduction from the book's opener:
Book 3 is easily the best bit of comics I have made to date. I'm a better artist and a better story-teller than I was, I poured my heart and soul into this one, and I sure hope it shows.
AN IMPORTANT BIT OF NEWS ABOUT BOOK 3
Book 3 is completely finished! The whole thing is written, drawn, inked, and lettered. It has been formatted in a nice high resolution pdf format. The only work left to do is to send the book to the printer. After the Kickstarter concludes, there is a two week period for funds to transfer, and then a period of a week or two for a proof copy to be printed and approved. Afterward it is a few more weeks for the rest of the books to be printed and shipped. There may be printer's delays, but I am hoping to mail out the physical books on the first month of the year!
Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges here are minimal. The book is already made. Written, drawn, and completed. This will be the fourth book that I will kickstart and ship. I have been getting progressively better at the fulfillment process, and I intend to make this my smoothest project yet.
There is one risk/challenge: Printer delays.
I work with a small mom and pop printing shop here in the USA. It's a small operation and delays do sometimes happen. However, the folks at the printer have never let me down nor any of my comic making colleagues who use them as well. They may delay, but they definitely deliver.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
