PURGATORY PUB Vol. 1
"Where your glass is always Half-Something."
Purgatory Pub Vol. 1 is the first of a five book graphic novel series about the Afterlife. A Guiding Angel from Uptown and a Tempter Demon from Downtown are friends that meet in their favorite pub in Midtown. In this story, we see what unlikely circumstances brought these friends together. We also meet such notable characters as Michael, Gabriel, God, and of course Lucifer. Later, we get to see what life is like in the Afterlife for us regular schlubs.
It's essentially a story about friendship, brotherly love, and betrayal. Also, booze and cigars play a big role.

What Will We Get to See in Vol. 1?
Ever wanted to go to a Heavy Metal Concert in Hell? Ever want to see what Lucifer was like before he became Satan? Ever wonder what would make two such opposites be friends? Vol. 1 will satisfy each of these needs.
Why are you making this?
Purgatory Pub represents something I have wanted to make for a long time. I have had these characters and these themes in my head since 2008 or so. After a few years, 2 graphic novels, 2 kids books, and sharpening my writing skills, I decided it was finally time to make it.
I took some time away from my freelancing and I sat down to write the whole series. When I did, I set out to tell a fun story about friendship. What I ended up writing was the most personal story I have ever written with the best artwork I have ever put into comic form.
Originally I wanted to put it all into one great Graphic Novel, but when I began to thumbnail out the story, I saw that it would take far too long, so I split it into a Graphic Novel Seres. Think Scott Pilgrim, Amulet, Super Pro K.O., or Very Near Mint.
This is a story with something to give you, and it takes it's time.
All I need now is the funds to get it printed and start distributing my dream. But of course, I can't do it without your help.
Where will the Money go?
All of the funds I raise here goes straight into the printing of the book. Any amount over my funding goal will go into promotional items (post cards and banners) and table costs for various conventions.
Are there stretch goals?
Nope. I'm here to make a book. That's all.
When will the book be available?
In either the winter or spring of 2014.
Ideally, I want the books to be in my possession in time for the convention season in the spring. I plan on debuting them at a launch party here in The Triangle (Central North Carolina) and then immediately taking them to conventions.
When will I get my copy?
That depends on what copy you ordered. If you ordered a custom sketch or a bust portrait, yours will be available later than those who only ordered the books. It's a rough position, that people who pay more have to wait longer, I know, but custom art takes time.
It is entirely possible, I will have my books at a convention before you have the one you ordered from this kickstarter in your hands.
If the printing turn around time is fast enough, I shall do everything in my power to fulfill all the kickstarter rewards prior to the beginning of con season.
Risks and challenges
The risks ahead of me that I can see are:
Printers often have multiple large jobs to juggle and often get behind. I hope it doesn't happen, but it often does.
Perhaps the books cost more to ship than usual, or take longer en route than the estimated time.
-My own rate of Fulfillment-
This is the biggest risk.
I am a working freelancer with bills and a family. I pledge to fill orders and draw commissions as fast as I can, but life can get in the way. This often happens with so many of the kickstarters that I myself have backed. It would be the ultimate act of hubris, or perhaps tempting fate, to say that it won't happen to me or to your order.
I can promise that this is the 5th book I have produced, and this story means the most to me by far. It WILL get made, and I want you to have it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
It's called "Looking Eyes, Holding Hearts" and it's by a local NC band called The Ethnographers https://www.facebook.com/theethnographers.
It's from their first album. The whole album is AMAZING! Highly recommend it. Buy it in iTunes. Now. Go do it. SO worth it.
Fun Fact: Two of the band members were in design school with me back in the day.
