Do you want the benefits of clipping into your bike pedals but are too worried about not being able to get out? Have you ever stayed clipped to your bike while crashing, causing you to find yourself in a crumpled heap on the ground still attached to your bike? I have – one too many times. Do you wish you had a bike pedal you could both clip into on the trail and use to casually ride around town? Hence the MagLOCK Bike Pedal was created.
The MagLOCK Bike Pedal is the new revolution to mountain biking. The MagLOCK Bike Pedal has a platform pedal design that utilizes strong rare-earth magnets to "clip" the rider's shoe to the pedal.
The MagLOCK Bike Pedal comes with steel clips that mount on SPD-compatible mountain bike shoes (shoes not included).
The MagLOCK Bike Pedal magnets make it easy to clip in, guiding your feet into the locking position. No more pain of strenuously moving your foot over the pedal to find the clip. This is especially useful when starting on a steep uphill incline, where quick clipping is needed.
360 Degrees of Power
MagLOCK Bike Pedal technology securely locks your feet onto your pedals using ultra-strong magnets, providing ample amounts of power for all 360 degrees of your pedal stroke. There is plenty of attractive force to keep your feet attached on the upstroke when climbing a steep hill, as well when hitting the jumps on the downhill.
The MagLOCK Bike Pedal is designed to release from the pronation of your feet. As your bike is tipping over your feet naturally pronate, thus freeing you from the bike as it goes careening off of a cliff onto the jagged rocks below. No more bloody gashes from falling onto sharp rocks.
Do you want your feet to stay on the pedals with only the biggest of impacts releasing you? The MagLOCK Bike Pedal can do that. Do you want to have slight attraction to your pedal to give it a “sticky” feel so you can easily eject if the next gap jump goes awry? The MagLOCK Bike Pedal can do that too. From nearly nothing to over 50 pounds of attractive force, the MagLOCK Bike Pedal can be adjusted to meet your needs.
Are you the type of person that is hesitant to start clipping in because you have heard the horror stories of not being able to clip out? With the adjustability of the MagLOCK Bike Pedal, you can start out by riding with only minimal attractive force. Then as you get more comfortable with having your feet attached to the pedals, you can increase the attractive force of the pedal. The MagLOCK Bike Pedal is easily adjusted by adding or removing magnets.

Make Your Bike Pedal Yours
Function isn’t the only thing on our mind. Thus we offer colored ChroMoly spindles and anodized aluminum plates to give your pedals some pizzazz.
The ChroMoly spindles are available in black, blue, and purple.
As an add-on, custom anodized aluminum plates come in blue, green, red, or purple (other colors may become available). To make your pedals uniquely yours, if you purchase the MagLOCK Bike Pedal with the custom anodized aluminum plates, we will etch an image of your choice on the plates. Once the Kickstarter has funded, we will ask you to email us a JPEG (.jpg) of the image you would like etched.
Low-Cost Plastic Pedal Concept
Due to the numerous questions I have received from family, friends, coworkers, etc, I’ve decided to give a sneak peak of the low-cost plastic pedal I’m developing (see Reward #1).
The plan is to make this pedal out of polycarbonate or a reinforced nylon. Depending on the type/shape of magnets used, I calculate that this pedal will weigh between 900 – 1200 grams (400 – 600 grams for the pedal, 500 – 650 grams for the magnets). If you are interested in having this type of pedal produced, make your voice heard by supporting Reward #1.
By the way, I’m also working on a thinner plastic pedal design (0.500 in – 0.750 in thick). It would weigh even less, but of course with the trade-off of having less magnetic attractive force.

Risks and challenges
As with any product design project, we are faced with the potential risks of product development delays, manufacturing delays, material supply issues, or unexpected serious injury or death of project creators. (Let’s pray that this last risk is a non-issue.) In order to mitigate these risks, we have already spent years prototyping and testing the magnetically-clipping technology and are working on identifying alternate machine shops and suppliers. We will commit to maintaining open communication with our supporters if we are confronted with any of these or other issues.
If we are able to exceed our funding goal, it will allow us to focus our attention on developing a lighter weight mountain bike pedal (possibly made of magnesium), a road bike pedal, additional shoe clip designs, and/or other bike pedal accessories.
