This Kickstarter is to raise funds for The Douglas Klauba 2016 Adventure Calendar. Award-winning illustrator, Doug is noted for his dramatic use of lighting in a “Heroic-Deco” style influenced by pulp magazine art and retro movie poster illustration which has earned him acclaim from collectors and clients around the world. He has always had a great passion and respect for the American Pulp Hero, and many of the illustrations here are depictions of classic characters. Almost all of these original paintings have been seen in print in the past and they are all collected together for the first time in this new Pulp Adventure calendar for the coming year.
The 2016 Adventure Calendar will contain a selection of his favorite covers from his 20+ year career, as well as some private commission work. (All characters are Copyrighted and Trademarked by their respective owners):

Throughout the world, Doug is most closely associated with the comic character The Phantom with over a dozen covers and numerous tie-ins featuring his depiction of "The Ghost Who Walks." Doug's paintings have been included in the art annuals of Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, the Society of Illustrators, and Imagine FX magazine. His painting, "Mercury Jack," exhibited in the Spectrum Show at the Museum of American Illustration and another of his paintings, "Da Vinci's Dream" was awarded Best in Show at the 2005 World Fantasy Convention. A poster of his painting, "Stella 7" can be seen hanging on Howard Wolowitz's bedroom wall on the hit television show, The Big Bang Theory. Doug has a love for all Pulp Heroes and at every chance he gets, (away from his more commercial work), he takes an assignment to paint these champions. This calendar is a very personal project for him: a chance to put those heroes on display for old fans and new ones to enjoy.
Bob Garcia has been a print designer since 1983, with all sorts of illustrated editions, magazines, chapbooks, calendars and more to his credit. The first calendars he designed were for Dragonriders of Pern and Marvel Super Heroes at Mayfair Games in the 1980s. Doug’s calendar has been a lot more fun to work on. Risks and challenges
Doug and Bob have been meeting deadlines for years. Bob was responsible for THE COLLECTORS' BOOK OF VIRGIL FINLAY Kickstarter and is well aware of how this should all work. (Many happy backers.)
The calendar has been designed and final production is only a couple of weeks away. 10 of the 12 paintings are finished. The John Carter of Mars is in progress and The Shadow painting will be completed by the time the Kickstarter is over. Then it's a couple of scans and it's off to the printer.
Now, equipment can fail, files could get lost (though there are backup files for each image in the calendar), either of us could get sick or some such disaster and we would lose time.
But so far, we're two months into working on the calendar and things are going smoothly. It's being printed digitally, so we have a two week turn-around from the printer. This would put the calendars in our hands in early December.
The only thing that might delay the calendar to getting to you will be the Christmas mails. But if all goes as planned, you'll be able to hang it on your wall by January 1st.
If anything does delay this project, we'll be quick to notify all Kickstarter supporters. We'll keep you abreast with updates every few days.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
