RELAUNCH: COMING SOON!
It is time to hunt the Beast of Balka! The Sun Clan and Moon Clan are competing to be the first to slay the Beast to earn the favor of their god, and they must navigate a jungle full of monsters - and worse, enemy hunting parties - to do so. Will you be able to use your superior tactics to claim your quarry, or will the other clan get the best of you?
What is Beast of Balka?
Beast of Balka is a fast-paced abstract strategy game that challenges each player to outwit their opponent, taking into account positioning and probability to emerge victorious. Destroying the enemy isn't your primary goal: in order to win, you must kill the Beast!
Each player takes turns traversing the forest, honing in on their prey and trying to hinder one another. The more each hunting party encounters danger, the more bloodthirsty they become; but they must face ambushes, misdirection, and - worst of all - stampeding beasts!
How to Play
Why Should You Be Interested?
Designed for 2 players, Beast of Balka is a unique abstract strategy game than can be played in 15 minutes. Its mechanics are simple, but there is considerable strategic depth. There is also an element of probability, which is uncommon in the abstract strategy genre. However, there is tactical decision making required regardless of the result of the die. Each game of Beast of Balka is varied, exciting, and fun!

I love all kinds of games: digital and analog, whimsical and tactical, hardcore and casual. Ever since I realized that it was an actual thing that people could do, I have wanted to be a game designer (since apparently being a chocobo knight isn't an option). I'm from rural Arkansas, and currently live in Little Rock with my other half and our gigantic puppy. I may sound like it in the videos, but I am not, indeed, a 12-year-old boy.
I'm currently studying Computer Science and English at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, working with writing, design, and programming for Bearicade Games. I'm also a part-time host for The Boomburst podcast, an intern at Braddock Avenue Books, and an active participant in the Little Rock Game Designer's Roundup. My inspirations include (but are by no means limited to) ACE Team, Telltale Games, Brian Froud, and Vlaada Chvátil.

I don't remember when I first started drawing, my mom is an artist so I think she helped develop my interest early on. Even before my motor control was developed I would enjoy looking for pictures in my scribbles. When I started working with clay I found new ways of thinking about art, which helped to establish the drawing techniques I use today. During this process I realized my love of creating characters in two dimensional and three dimensional art. I've always been enthralled with the fantastic worlds and characters in video games, books, and movies, and once I realized that someone had actually created these things I knew it was something I wanted to do.
I'm 28 years old and currently live in San Diego, California. Among my artistic influences are Amano Yoshitaka, Vincent Van Gogh, and John Bauer. My current career goals involve providing concept art for games and illustrations for children's books.
Founded in 2015 by two oddballs that had been working together for years prior, Bearicade Games is a groundwork game design group dedicated to making the sorts of games that we've always wanted to play. Bearicade stays hard at work designing both tabletop and digital games.

Risks and challenges
Beast of Balka is the first game from Bearicade Games. Though we are lacking in experience, we are dedicated to ensuring this game and all add-ons are delivered to backers in a timely manner. We have been working closely with our manufacturer and fulfillment center to ensure that Beast of Balka will make it into your hands as soon as possible. Issues may well arise, but we are confident that they will be handled without undue stress on our backers.
The game is already nearly complete; Beast of Balka has been playtested by multiple age groups at several different events, and it has grown a great deal from player feedback. We just need your help to make it a reality! We plan on keeping open lines of communication with our backers throughout production.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
