Funded and Finalized!
Thanks everyone for a great campaign. We are in the last few minutes of the campaign, and we can't express how grateful we are for your participation, and how excited to get this game into people's hands. We really are humbled at the support people have shown us, both old friends and new friends, supporters we have met throughout the campaign. Thank you, really. It's hard to describe how it feels to have worked so hard to pull something like this together, and to see people reach out and respond, supporting it as kindly as our backers have.
If you missed us, you can check us out at midnightcampaign.com. We will be printing a few extra copies of this game, and will be making the effort to get into a wider distribution in game stores with this project.
In the meanwhile, we will be making the game available through our website, as well as through conventions and other demos. Please come see us or drop us a line! We'd love to say hello. Any other questions or feedback are welcome, at email@example.com
Thanks again for an amazing kickstarter drive. You guys rock!
-Rob & Aubrey Hicks
Midnight Campaign Games
In this card game, players take the role of Goblins at the breakfast table, scrambling to eat as much food as they can while simultaneously keeping food from others. Players select which food and makeshift weapons they are going to snatch from the table in a small arms race of theft and chaos. Eat the most, so that you can be the biggest goblin!
The game plays 2 to 6 players with the base deck. It only takes about 5 minutes to learn, and only about 15 minutes for a single game.

For more specific instructions on how the game plays, you can read the instruction sheet below, or just watch the following tutorial video, which will teach you the game and answer some questions we've gotten from players as we've play-tested and demonstrated the game.
Base Game The base game consists of 60 cards, including the food, weapon and special action cards pictured above, as well as a sheet of rules and a small box. But that's just the beginning...
Second Breakfast! For the extended Kickstarter, we will also be including a second 70 card deck, which more than doubles the number of cards for the game. This second deck can be used to expand the deck, allowing more players, or to customize it for your specific taste. It can also be used as an entirely different Goblin's Breakfast game, all by itself. But we still have more...
Game Mods! The base game and second deck are easy to teach and to play, and although it has competitive depth and strategy, we like to keep players on their toes, so we designed a series of game Mods, mini-expansions to the game that don't just add more cards to the game, but really shake up the strategy!
The Big Breakfast Kickstarter pledge tier will include the first 2 Game Mods, including the Goblin Character Pack and the Goblin Flu.
Also, there are more Modification packs that we would love to include in the game, but have left as stretch goal content, including The Buddy System, Rats!, Wild Magic, Ooze Attack, and Table Scraps! See how many we can unlock to get the most out of your game!
But you don't actually have to take our word for it. If you want to try out Goblin's Breakfast before you decide to pledge, we totally understand. That's why we have a full demo copy of the game available for you to print and play on your own! (Instructions are included on how to use them.)
Keep in mind that This demo version of the game includes just the base deck, without any of the extras included in the Kickstarter rewards, and will likely have a few card changes before the final printing.
We have reviews and previews from a few sources, including Board Game Geek, Board Game Brawl and Guildmaster Gaming. We'll post more reviews as we get them in the links below.
"Goblin's Breakfast will be a treasured part of my collection and I would love to play it back-to-back at any game night. It doesn't get much better than that... This is one of the highest scores I have given to a game to date."
Board Game Geek: (Player Reviews)
"Super easy to pick up, (you) practically don't even need the rulebook. After two games it got quite cutthroat (and) was a really great experience."
"Amazing little game, it's quick and fun, and lots of laughs. This game is always a hit when I introduce it to new players."
Board Game Brawl:
"Even though this is a light family card game and it is very simple to teach and is very fast to get up and running, it's still got some interesting concepts that get a little bit deeper than your average filler card game."
"Introducing this to some younger players, they had fun with the theme and what the cards do...I already know a couple of families wanting to get a set to have on hand."
Board to Death TV:
Also, the game was a finalist in the 2014 Ion Awards, competing against more than 40 other games for the recognition. We've played and demonstrated and play-tested it with many players at conventions and game stores, and are very happy with the response that we've gotten.
Last, the game was selected to be featured in the 2015 PAX South Indie Showcase, again competing with many other games, and as such will be on display for play-testing and demos Jan 22-25 at PAX South in San Antonio!
About the Box! To keep the game safe, it will be coming in a roughly 3 x 9 x 1" box, ("silver line" size, for comparison.) The Fancy Breakfast version of the game will come with a little bit larger box, in order to accommodate the play mat that will come with that version of the game. It's not really necessary to play, but it sure is fancy!
Materials! For card stock, we will likely be doing 300 gsm paper cards. These are both mid-tier grade. We will be looking into sturdier materials as we go forward, and if we can do it in a cost-effective way, we will try. We really want to provide the best game we can afford to do.
Goblin's Breakfast is illustrated by Travis Hanson, author of The Bean webcomic series and many other works. Travis brings a great light fantasy tone to the game, and if you like his work, you should check out his website at beanleafpress.com. He does commissions and many of his own projects, which are worth checking out.
Base Funding Goal Our base goal is set for $7,500, with a few different pledge options available, and similar rewards for those who help support the project. Our initial goal should be enough to cover the cost of manufacturing and shipping, as well as the art assets for the game. If we can make that goal, we will be able to get the game into your hands.
What we are putting into it. The base goal of $7,500 does not, however, cover the time and work we have put into designing and developing the game, nor will it cover the cost of advertising and promotion required to make a Kickstarter game a reality. That's where our own contribution comes in. We have decided to set our goal low, in order to make the game more likely to fund, and if we just barely make it, are happy to cover other costs to make the game a reality. If we overshoot that goal, however, we will have more finances available to add more to the game, and to make future games possible.
Includes a PDF copy of the final Base Game, just like the Demo PDF, but this pledge tier will also include all of the bonus content that we unlock for the Big Breakfast pledge tier.
This includes everything in the Big Breakfast package, but at a minor discount for those that are able to pledge early. We decided to do this as a small thank you for those who followed our first campaign and help get the ball rolling early. We appreciate you guys! (Limit 50.)
This is the standard pledge tier. It includes the base game, the second breakfast deck, and the first two Game Mods, (Goblin Character Pack and Goblin Flu. It will also include any unlocked stretch goal content.
This version of the game will include everything in the Big Breakfast, as well as a custom play mat to provide a nicer table setting, and a bigger, fancier box to hold the full game! It will also include a custom print from our illustrator, exclusive to the Kickstarter, which will fit nicely in the box! Fancy!
This pledge reward includes everything that comes in the Fancy breakfast, but with a special, spectacular bonus. We will make YOU a goblin, and put you into the game! More specifically, if you choose this tier, we will give your likeness to our artist, and he will make a caricature of you as a goblin, and will use that image for one of the goblin character cards!
Or, if you prefer, we can simply name it after you, or both! Either way, you will end up as a sponsor on the Goblin Elite Game mod, to be included in every copy of the game!
(Limit 16, unless we unlock more Goblins...)
This will include 4 copies of the Big Breakfast version of the game! Share with your friends!
This will include 8 copies of the Big Breakfast version of the game! Share with LOTS of friends!
The Buddy System:
This mod creates a variable team mechanic, where goblins work together, sort of, but watch out for traitors!
The breakfast table is getting over-run by Rats! Don't let them take over, and maybe the Matron will give the best rat-hunter a little extra reward... Rat Pie!
The Goblin Matron found some sparkly beans, and figured they'd make for some good soup. Unfortunately, they were magic beans, and there are going to be serious side-effects. This Mod includes 18 cards, and complicates the strategy a bit in a chaotic way.
Sometimes food fights back. Goblins band together for a serious cooperative food fight!
Someone has been feeding the Goblin Mutt under the table. Now it is big enough to throw its weight around! The Mutt adds a little spice and chaos to the breakfast table.
We have a series of Promo Packs available that are unlock able through participating in social media support for the game! Each promo pack unlocks 3 cards, 1 weapon, food and special action card. Help us get the word out for this project, and we will add these to the game!

Extra Goblin Characters!
Similarly, if we are able to get REALLY far in the social media support, we will happily add a few more goblins to the mix. This will also unlock more spots for the Goblin Elite package.
There is more! But we figure that's enough for now, and honestly, we'll just be happy to get the main game into your hands. We'll keep you posted as we unlock further stretch goals!
We are planning on working with international shipping through Amazon Fulfillment Services. That means we should be able to ship to United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, China and India, or anyplace served by Amazon's web services. Additional costs for international backers are listed in the pledge tiers to the right.
Based on our estimates, we hope to have the game in your hands by December, 2015. This is a fairly cautious overestimation of the amount of time it will actually take, since this is our first Kickstarter project. It is very likely that we will be able to get the game to you a little sooner, but we appreciate your patience. We will, of course, keep people posted on our progress as we get closer.
Please be aware that some rights for re-printing commissioned prints will remain with the artist. (Because we like Travis, and understand that he makes part of his living by selling prints.) Promo Cards included in this Kickstarter will be not be included in a non-Kickstarter printing of the game, but we do reserve the right to give any piece of this Kickstarter package out as ongoing promotions at conventions and as part of other promotional packages. We also reserve the right to re-print the base game and expansion content again at a later point for sale and distribution, if we can, and so don't make any promises about exclusive content. We love our backers, but we also want to be able to share our games later, too.
We are very grateful for your time in checking out our work, and hope to hear from you in the comments!
-Rob & Aubrey,
Risks and challenges
We don't foresee any major problems with the production of the game. The base game is completely finished and ready to send for manufacturing, which we have already made arrangements for.
Depending on which stretch goals we meet, we may need to give our artist a few extra weeks to complete new art, but we have already taken this into account with our final scheduling.
We can commit to keeping backers posted on the specific schedule of when their product will arrive once we complete the drive, and will notify you of any changes to that timeline as they have. (We plan on having a progress bar available on our website, specifically for backers.)
If any other delays or interruptions come up, we will be notifying our backers as soon as we can.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
