Eleven days before I leave for Iceland...
It has been a busy month, and I have quite a bit of news to report on our project!
First, I'm back from an "on-board photographer" gig which took me to Antarctica, and served as a great bit of preparation for living in and working in the sorts of conditions I expect in Iceland--blowing snow, cold, and magnificent beauty. I now have a lot more confidence in my camera gear and my cold weather gear, although I have made a few improvements in the latter. (Thanks to CP in Alaska for finding me a better glove solution than the one I'd been using, very much appreciated!)
Second, in the next forty-eight hours I'll be sending out the first surveys to backers at the "postcard" reward level. Surveys for each level of reward will be sent out at different times for each reward level, mostly what I'll be trying to do is to minimize the chances of rewards being shipped to old addresses. Keep an eye out for it!
Third, this weekend, I got a chance to speak at length to Don Drake of Dreaming Mind Bindery, and to get a better look at his studio and some of his previous work. Don is going to be producing the boxes for the "boxed portfolio set" that I've been so looking forward to completing, and his work is inspiring.
It's still too early to nail down many specifics about the final presentation for the boxed portfolio set. Presentations should lead the viewer into the work, and of course, some of that work has yet to be created. So I'll need to exercise a little more patience!
Fourth, and finally, in the forty-eight hours I'll be sending out a backer-only update, which will include access information for the "daily trip blog" that all backers will have access to. That will start in full on January 1, but we'll get you the URL early, since will be including a few bonus December posts about the trip planning and logistics there. I hope you'll find them interesting.
Thank you all, again, for making this project possible.
