About

Danny Butler, recent Marine Corps veteran, finds out that transitioning back to civilian life in present day New York City comes with some good, some bad, and some hilarity. Finding an apartment, interviewing for jobs, trying to meet women as a civilian, and all the other everyday challenges are all new to Danny. Luckily, he has some old college friends and few military buddies by his side to help him through it. Or at least laugh with him when things go haywire. Written and directed by a 29-year-old Marine Corps veteran, Vetted is a comedy about how veterans aren't just the sob stories you see on the news, they're are just trying to get through the day like anyone else. It's just a bit different when your old wardrobe is camouflage.

The first episode has already been written, shot, produced, and is currently being shopped around in all manner of ways. In addition, it will be released in segments online via our Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube pages throughout the summer. But we don't want to wait on finding a big studio or network to come to us before we make more episodes. We want to put the next chapter in the life of Danny and his friends to film as soon as we possibly can. There are stories we want to share, jokes we want to tell, war anecdotes we (at least) find amusing, and new friends and foes to meet (including a new main character we look forward to adding). We want to shoot (at least) a whole, new full episode to be released online, shopped around alongside our pilot, or both.

Risks and challenges

For us, most of the bigger risks in producing an episode are non-issues. We've already shot one full, 20 minute episode and were able to because we know, and regularly work with, professional crews, producers, and actors. Chances are, the names in the technical credits for any further segments we produce will be nearly the same as with our first one. Once we have funds, we can schedule production and start bringing our friends and coworkers together again.

The real risks come after, when it comes to selling the show. We're already in the midst of that lengthy, consuming, and endlessly frustrating process. Even with a lot of support from the veteran community and several published positive reviews, we're still trying to get someone to say "yes" to optioning the show. Our hope is that with our release of the first episode via social media, compounded with any further installments we are able to produce, will give our current and ongoing campaign with various networks and studios that extra "oomph" to option the series.
