PUSH TURN MOVE - the book about electronic music instruments

Hello!

My name is Kim Bjørn and welcome to the PUSH TURN MOVE Kickstarter!

Like many, I have always been passionate about music technology. Two years ago I got the idea to combine my interest for design with my love of gear into an elegant, up-to-date book about electronic music instruments.

PUSH TURN MOVE shows all kinds of gear but the ambition goes further: It provides a categorization of equipment and software while exploring the functional and artistic world of electronic interfaces in the context of making music.

Initially, the book was born out of my own passion. But it has transformed into a multi-voiced project since it contains more than 25 interviews with innovative designers, artists and brands who conceive or use these great music making tools.

Quite unique for PUSH TURN MOVE is that brands who might usually be considered competitors have joined the book side by side to share their knowledge about gear for making electronic music.

So what exactly is PUSH TURN MOVE? Watch the video, take the tour below and please support the book by selecting a reward if you like the idea. The book will be sent out in September.

Timeline

Team

PUSH TURN MOVE is written by Danish designer, author, lecturer and electronic musician Kim Bjørn and edited by Mike Metlay, editor at Recording Magazine and Paul Nagle, reviewer at Sound on Sound Magazine. The whole project is kept together and on track by music industry Project Manager Lars Juhl.

Risks and challenges

As an author and designer, I have written and designed more than a handful of books before, so I know the process and what to do. All files involved in production are backed up regularly to two different hardware locations and one cloud service.

More than two thirds of the book and almost all the interviews are already done, written and designed.

Two experienced editors, Mike Metlay from Recording Magazine (US) and Paul Nagle, reviewer from Sound on Sound Magazine (UK), will do editing during June and July while I do photo-editing and corrections.

The printing will be done in a reputable printing facility in Denmark, which is specialised in book printing. They have printed some of my books before, and that's why I chose them: They are easy to communicate with and delivers outstanding quality. I have already had an extensive communication with them and booked the printing to be done from 6th of August.

The fulfilment is done by professional companies, who have done excellent handling before - amongst others for Attack Magazine. They will be responsible for sending most of the books out.

For the record: The book is completely commercial-free, content is selected by relevance to the overall purpose of the book. We are in close contact with the artists, makers and designers contributing to this book and they trust us in our aim to deliver the best.
