Never be caught without your tools again! The magnetic ‘Key-Bit’ is a simple and compact, keychain-friendly hex tool! Available in knurled Copper, Brass or Aluminum, the case fits most 1/4″ x 1″ bits, including Phillips, Slotted, Torx, or square hex bits.
The 'Key-Bit' uses two rare-earth neodymium magnets with a separation force of 6.48 pounds. Perfect for a secure carry while giving you a quick tool release. A hex shaped hole (hex broached) prevents the hex bit from slipping while turning.
Key-Bit ships with a #2 Phillips hex screw bit and keyring.
The Key-Bit is available in 6061 Aluminum and 145 Tellurium Copper.
The Copper Key-Bit will patina beautifully and weighs in at ~1.6 oz and the Aluminum version is ~.8 oz.
The Key-Bit ships assembled. Just slip on the keyring and you're ready to go!
The Key-Bit was designed and will be made in Minneapolis Minnesota.
Key-Bit Magnet Strength. According to the magnet supplier, the magnets have a pull force of 6.48 pounds, that's A LOT of KEYS! The design challenge, is to use magnets that are strong enough to utilize in a EDC while allowing for an efficient separation of the bit.
Here's a video demo of me, swinging a keyring full of keys. About 9 oz. worth of keys, before spin force adds even more wight:
Risks and challenges
I have successfully delivered several other Kickstarter projects.
The 'Key-Bit' will be made in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which eliminates the issue of dealing with out of state machine shops and shipping logistics.
Production costs and allowances have already been established.
My machinists experience and successful delivery of other Kickstarter projects, gives me great insight to production considerations, e.g. how to design the 'Key-Bit' and time effective production and delivery.
The material used for the 'Key-Bit' have good availability and are not subject to extreme pricing spikes or shortages.
If I need to ramp up production speed or in the unlikely event I get hit by a bus, I have another local machine shop that will assist.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
