About this project
What is WarQuest?
WarQuest is a high fantasy/grand strategy game that immerses players in the world of Myrathia where each takes the role of a warlord, seeking to reunite the fractured land under his/her banner. During the game, players will recruit different races (wood elves, dwarves, goblins, orcs and satyrs) to fill their armies, travel across the world of Myrathia, complete demanding quests, engage in ferocious battles, conquer and control strategic regions, and if successful, make themselves ruler of all Myrathia. The game is for 2-5 players and takes 45 minutes to an hour per player. WarQuest is firmly rooted in the theme-driven, dice rolling, engaging fun of big box "Ameritrash" map and miniatures games combined with the advantages of newer gameplay mechanics and concepts that facilitate faster, more balanced and more dynamic gameplay.
About the miniatures
Warquest miniatures are in 25mm scale (the warlord and lieutenant are 25mm foot to eye and some races are larger (orcs) and some are smaller (dwarves and goblins). The miniatures are made by the same team that made the miniatures for Zombicide and Arcadia Quest.
About the team
WarQuest reunites, for the first time since 2006, the design, development and production team that brought you Railroad Tycoon™ the boardgame, Railways of Europe, Conquest of the Empire, and Age of Empires III™ the boardgame. In addition, Ralph Horsley (Lords of Waterdeep, Shadows of Brimstone) is doing the cover, creature races and character art. Don Beyer (Bootleggers and the upcoming Extraordinary Voyages) is writing the rich Myrathian history.
One thing we quickly saw when we got together and started working on WarQuest was that...
"We're gonna need a bigger table."
Unless otherwise noted, stretch rewards are limited edition releases that will only be available on Kickstarter and at consumer shows.
The orc halberdier is a highly trained orc foot troop adding a good defensive ability to an already ferocious attack.
The satyr stick fighter combines speed, agility and power into a well-rounded fighter.
The goblin spearman is an experienced warrior and is stronger defensively.
The wood elf spearman works well wth his archer breathren and has an additional defense.
The dwarf pikeman is a very sturdy defensive warrior and provides excellent protection for weaker but more lethal units.
The Fire Dragon is the deadliest of all creatures in Myrathia and can only be recruited when the Warlord has acquired the Dragon Egg power card.

Each player is a Warlord who is trying to dominate the land through conquest, acquisition of powerful items, and defeating monsters that plague the land.
At the beginning of the game the Warlord recruits an army made up of any of the 5 main races: Wood Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Goblins, or Beastmen (Satyrs in the base game).
Each Warlord has 2 Quest Cards and 2 Conquest Cards. When a Quest or Conquest is completed, the player earns the Victory Points as noted on the card (based on the difficulty of the mission), and draws another card of the same type.
On a player’s turn he/she may perform any three of these actions:
• Move an army.
• Move and army and fight a resulting battle. A note about movement - This is not a static game of conquer and defend: No turtling here. The missions listed on the Quest and Conquest cards require that the players keep their armies moving across the lands, and therefore battles are frequent.
• Buy a Power Card: There are 5 Power Cards available for purchase at all times. These may be Spells, Magic Items, Ownership of a Market in one of the cities of Myrathia, or other Special Item.
• Take control of a region currently occupied by your troops.
• Tax a city under your control.
• Recruit new troops: One of your leaders must be in a region where the race lives (Goblin Lands, Orc Lands, etc.).
• Recruit a new Lieutenant (in a city only).
• Complete a Quest: A leader must be in the location of the Quest.
At the end of each turn, an event card is drawn from the Event Deck. Typical events are: rebellions, plagues, invasions, goblin hordes, pirates, barbarians, migrations, the dead rising from their graves led by a mysterious wraith-king…pretty apocalyptic stuff.
Winning the Game
WarQuest has a fixed number of turns for its end game depending on how long you want to play. The winner is determined by whoever has the greates number of victory points.
Other races may become available to the Warlord with the right item or knowledge (these races or creatures will be made available in expansions). These include: Bugbears, Wizards, Ogres, Trolls, Treeherds, Giants, and Dragons.
When battles occur, each player deploys troops in two ranks (5 troops each in front and rear) and a reserve (the rest of the troops). Each rank attacks in turn: ranged troops (such as archers and wizards) in the rear rank first, followed by melee bashers in the front rank. As troops fall or flee, replacements move up into their places to fill the line.
Each troop type has a unique attack and defense rating. Attack ratings show the player how many attack dice that unit has, and the defense rating shows how many hits the unit may take before it is eliminated.
Each race has strengths and weaknesses, and some units have special attacks.
Accessing the right spells and magic items can tip the balance in your favor!
Expansions bring additional depth to the vibrant world of Myrathia. The Wraith King adds an exciting and unexpected twist to WarQuest. The elites add new units to some of the core races from the base game and other expansions add new races and magic...a world awaits!
Please note that expansions released during this Kickstarter do not have a scheduled or guaranteed release date into retail.
This expansion adds a new and exciting end-game to WarQuest. On turn 13, the player in last place ceases to play as a Warlord and instead takes control of The Wraith King and his undead army! The Wraith King has only one goal: to destroy every city in Myrathia and turn the land into a vast land of the dead.

Bugbears are considered a common race in Myrathia, but they are a little harder to recruit and stronger than the other common races. Once recruited, however, they can stand up to attacks by the more fragile races and smash them to bits.

In Myrathia, there are four wizardly orders who deal in combat magic: Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. Each order specializes in unique spells that allow them to tip the scales in battle.
The Wizards Expansion is only available at the Supreme Warlord pledge level and will not be sold at retail. It includes 4 unique sculpts and 12 figures:

Designer - Glenn Drover
Glenn Drover was the founder and president of Eagle Games, Inc. from 2000 – 2006. During that time he ran the company while also designing and publishing several high-end board games including Railroad Tycoon, Age of Mythology, Conquest of the Empire, Sid Meier’s Civilization, Attack!, Napoleon in Europe, War! Age of Imperialism, The American Civil War, and others. In 2007 under his private Tropical Games label, Glenn also designed and published Age of Empires III: The Age of Discovery, which enjoyed great commercial and critical success. Artist - Ralph Horsley
Ralph has drawn and painted for pleasure for as long as he can remember, but his creations were given focus by two key childhood events; a teacher reading The Hobbit to his class, and the gift of Dungeons & Dragons as a birthday present. He quickly became a keen gamer who illustrated the worlds that he played in. Those passions inevitably led him down a natural path where his hobby became his career. He has worked for over two decades in the games industry producing artwork for, amongst many others, Dungeons and Dragons. World of Warcraft, Warhammer and of course Magic the Gathering. His roster of published cards totals over fifty with more on the way. He lives in Leeds, in the UK, and is still happiest when creating fantastical art and playing games. Artist - Paul E. Niemeyer
Paul E. Niemeyer has been doing art since he could first pick up a pencil. After college, Paul, worked as an illustrator at Bally Pinball/Midway Electronic Gaming. His artwork adorned such iconic games as Tron, Tapper, Satan's Hollow, the entire PacMan family, Mortal Kombat, Demolition Man, and many, many other titles. Paul has won 6 POPAI awards for his wildly imaginative in-store displays, and the prestigious Mobius Award for Advertising Illustration.
In 2000, Paul became one of the original partners with Eagle Games and was responsible for the artwork on Age of Imperialism, American Civil War, Napoleon in Europe, Sid Meier's Civilization, Microsoft's Age of Mythology, Bootleggers, Railroad Tycoon, Age of Empires III, and many others. Author - D. W. Beyer
Don Beyer is a repressed writer whose efforts are continuously thwarted by board game design. He has been active in the board game industry for over a decade having co-founded SDR Games whose published titles include Bootleggers, Bootleggers: The Boardwalk, and Kayak Chaos. Don has authored several short stories and a full-length novel set in a world of massive floating mansions, stagecoaches, airships, private railroad cars and dusty western towns that lanquishes rather indulgently in a perpetual cycle of re-writes. Graphic Design - Jacoby O’Connor
Jacoby got his first exposure to graphic design while in high school, locked in a dark room, shooting film for other designers paste up layout years before computers took over the industry and the world. Years after being introduced to Photoshop 1, and Illustrator 88, he jumped into the world of Board Games when getting to work with Glenn Drover and Paul Niemeyer on the complete suite of Eagle Games titles. Since then he has done lots of projects both in and out of the board game world. He now spends his free time figuring out how to perfect each and every cup of coffee he drinks, as well as working outside in the garden with his wife and 11 chickens. President of L4 Studios, Keith is a former Marine, electrical engineer, teacher and graduate of the Chicago GSB. Keith's history with games goes back well beyond his professional experience. In the late 1970s his uncle Brian came down from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and introduced him to a game that Brian's company had recently released. Dungeons & Dragons (TM) opened up a world that continues to bring joy to this day as he shares that same sense of wonder and imagination with his son.
