About this project
TrackDat - An app to help guide and motivate you to improve your life and reach your goals
TrackDat is starting off as a self tracking Android app. There are many self tracking apps that you could use so why is TrackDat so important?
One of the hardest parts of self tracking is staying motivated. TrackDat is the first app to motivate self tracking by social connections. This does not mean just sharing data among friends, we are reimagining the way we look at social networks. We are hoping that TrackDat can become a specific, streamlined and meaningful social network. Just by tracking yourself, you will not only help yourself reach your goals but you will also help others trying to reach the same goals. TrackDat is an interconnected massive intelligent system based on a completely new self tracking social platform.
How is TrackDat so motivating?
- By tracking with others and in groups providing a peer support environment
- By providing tools to allow you to see your actions directly influencing and helping other users with similar goals
- By having a rewarding achievement system for everything you do
- By donating to charity when you create or follow any the life improvement programs
"When I was working as a software consultant in a medical setting, I met various researchers, doctors, nurses, and patients. Unfortunately, not all of my meetings were positive showing how technology can help them. Some of the patients were depressed and felt like they were helpless when it came to their problem. They said their lives were controlled by their problem and they couldn't plan anything in advance. They just waited to see the medical professionals and bug them about what they could do to help themselves. This is why they jumped right into the research projects and new technology, the thought of possibly being able to help themselves more was just so enticing.
Thus, I saw that there is more I could do to help people because even I at times have felt helpless. I've felt like nobody and nothing can help me and there is nothing I can do and I know that so many other people have felt like this. I realised that as a developer I have the power to bring advancedtechnology to not only these types of people but to everyone that wants to better themselves. Hence, TrackDat was born, a tool bringing powerful data analytics to analyse our lifestyles in such a way that we could never do ourselves. I hope that TrackDat will bring a whole new level self awareness that we can act upon to change our lives for the better."

What are TrackDat's programs?
A program is a step by step guide to what you could do along with what you should track in order to reach a specific goal. For example, a program with the goal to be able to run a marathon after the completion of the program would probably have you doing various exercises and running at various intensities each day. TrackDat would then tell you what else you are doing that influences how well you are running and offer suggestions to improve even faster.
Free vs Premium
If everything is free, what is the premium version about? Premium is there to help you understand your data better. Each month you will have the ability to speak with a data expert to help you understand what your data is saying and why it's saying it. By doing this, the data expert can help you understand how different factors influence your body and mind, thus knowing yourself better.
Currently, TrackDat is in an alpha stage. Users can browse, add, and create programs, track themselves, view their data, and receive a simple data analysis. Currently we're working hard implementing a prototype version of Tracker Space and especially focusing on ensuring that our permission control system is bug free.
Tracker Space is a new social network where, if you choose to, you can connect your data, trackers, programs, and lifestyle change suggestions with others with similar goals as you. Tracker Space is being designed in a way where you only choose the feeds you want to see, instead of having one giant wall with too much information to sort through.
For example you are participating in a program tracking W, X, and Y with the goal of reducing Z. Another user participating in the same program is also tracking A, B, and C and discovered that C influences Z. Your feed would then show something like, "Person 2 has a similar goal as yours and just discovered that C affects Z in this way. Want to starting tracking C?"
Where is your money going?
Design and development are the largest costs. After putting all of my savings into TrackDat, I now need support to keep the project going. Other than our hackathon pizzas, all of the money will go towards external expenses...
- Development - 80,000kr
- Design - 15,000kr
- Tech costs - 7,000kr
- Kickstarter fees ~ 13,000kr
- Keeping us fed - 15,000kr
Goals and Stretch Goals
130,000kr - TrackDat's open beta! This includes limited system intelligence, social tracking, and Tracker Space by December. Thanks to a partnership with expert researchers, we will ship with a "verified by research" colon-cancer survivor program as well as 5 other programs from our own research.
200,000kr - Smart devices! We will get a hold of as many smart devices as possible so we can connect them to TrackDat.
250,000kr - Food Tracker! Easily input the food you eat and TrackDat will begin analyzing nutrition information.
300,000kr - Achievements! We can implement the reward and achievement system we're envisioning.
400,000kr - Image Tracker! We know people have trouble explaining things with text, so we will create the ability to add image trackers where you choose a location or area on an image to better track things such as the location of your pain.
500,000kr - Complex intelligence! We will be able to implement complex intelligence so when two random users track the same goal (not in the same program), the system knows that their goal is the same and can provide suggestions to each other based on what the other finds.
750,000kr - New "verified by research" programs! Help take control of your depression, help find causes for your headaches, and how to keep a healthy diet will now be programs created by research experts!
1,000,000kr - iOS version! Fully functional version for iPhones, iPads, and Macs. We don't want you Apple users to be left out!
1,250,000kr - Apple devices, we will connect the iOS version to various Apple devices so that TrackDat supports nearly any smart wearable you may have.
Vote for your favorite program!
I mentioned a competition in the video and you can see three backer rewards ending with each of our names Mark, Rodrigue, and Aleksi. So what does it mean? All three of us have a unique problem that we would like to create as one of the starting programs in TrackDat, but because we are very busy with development and working with researchers to create verified programs, we just don't have the time to do all of them. So by backing one of us, you will be supporting our program. The one that gets the most backers will get created! Additionally, if the reward gets the maximum backers, we will build it no matter what!
Mark Meurer - "Growing up with motion sickness sucks. I've hated that everytime I get into a car for more than a few minutes my stomach flips over. I've hated telling friends lets take my car or sorry I can't go, I get terribly car sick. After living my whole life with this problem, it hasn't gotten any better. I know a few things that influence it to an extent, but nothing that fixes it completely. I know that many others out there also get motion sickness of some kind, so I would like to create a program that can help all of us work together to find out what we can do to survive the next car ride."
Rodrigue Al Fahel -"Personally I often feel tired in different ways and it has a major effect on my daily productivity. I would like to know the cause of it in order to feel more energetic, productive and happier everyday. I believe many people suffer from tiredness in which they don´t know the cause of. The program is therefore mainly for them to try and identify why they might be tired. Stress from school was for instance one factor of tiredness for me, eating big portions during the day, a lack of motivation, my workout was irregular, etc. Together, maybe we can find things in our lives that cause tiredness."
Aleksi Klimov - "I've always been skinny. No matter what I did I couldn't gain weight. I think it maybe was due to my lifestyle in France but also a doctor said I may have a condition which makes it much harder to gain weight. This meant not only was I skinny, but building muscle was also difficult. This program is for everyone that has troubles gaining weight so that we can find and share with each other the things that have worked for us."
Help us help the world
We believe that TrackDat can become an amazingly powerful and effective life changing tool. Because of this, we will work continuing working in our free time, no matter the funding or the pace, because we believe it can change the lives of millions.
By backing us you will help us get TrackDat created and out to the world faster and more efficiently! If you ended up reading to this point, thank you so much for your time and potentially your support or social share.
Risks and challenges
Obviously there are many risks and challenges ahead of us. Even though we have gotten quite far, there is a long way to go.
One of our biggest challenges is creating programs based on research. It takes a lot of time to find relevant research and contact experts in the field. It may be possible that when creating our "verified by research" programs for you that there are no experts available or willing to work with us. In such a case we will do everything we can to find other experts or dive deep in the research with a related field's expert willing to help.
Additionally, one risk that all users face is the fact that it is possible that what you are tracking, or even your lifestyle in general, has no influence on the goal you are trying to reach. Unfortunately, even though the app is a life improver, it is possible that our analysis won't return any suggestions or any suggestions that actually work for you. For example if you have a broken arm and you're tracking how far you can throw a potato... there isn't much we can do for you. Jokes aside, we can't create correlations that don't exist. That's why our system gets smarter as we go and we need your help to just get out there, set goals, join programs and track yourselves!
One way or another, we will create TrackDat to the best of our ability as we believe it has a huge potential to help millions of people. The risk with such a system and limited funding is that we can't be 100% certain that nothing will delay the development process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
