The Six Mile Pencil encourages you to draw.
It illustrates how far you've drawn by using a mile ruler printed on it’s body and contains enough graphite to draw six miles.
The pencil will be produced by one of the last remaining pencil manufacturers in England, Chambers pencils, a 90 year old family run business.

Product Overview
The Concept
In a bid to create an honest low tech product, the six mile pencil was born from the idea of encouraging people to get back in touch with the almost redundant skill of using a pencil. The pencil displays how many miles of graphite you have used and how far your thoughts have travelled. With every hand drawn sketch, memo or offensive doodle of your boss, you can visibly see how far you've drawn and fist pump the air at every milestone. The pencils are available in both mile and kilometre variations. So whether it be a half a mile or five miles, the more you draw, the better you get.
The Theory
We spent time testing and calculating the reduction in pencil graphite Vs distance traveled. Just one of our pencils contains enough graphite to draw 6 Miles/10KM of wonder. To put it another way, you could draw one continuous line from good old London all the way to New York with only 576 (and a half) pencils!! I know right!!?

Risks and challenges
Biggest risk is Christmas delivery, disappointed faces on the day is our drive. To avoid this we have had picked local suppliers specially for their speed, quality and our existing relationships with them. We minimized number of links in the chain by reducing all the manufacturing and fulfilment services to just two suppliers. We've had years of dealing with product launch deadlines, this is something we are very comfortable with.
We are a working design agency so other projects will be running alongside this but we have a dedicated team set-up to deal with all events pre, during and post the Kickstarter campaign.
