About this project
Thanks for visiting. My project needs a kickstart, so you came just at the right time!
Rollerblade: An Entrepreneurial Dream Story is slated to be an entertaining memoir of Scott Olson’s life and how Scott started a worldwide phenomenon through his inline skate innovation and the founding of Rollerblade, Inc. the company that spawned the modern inline skating industry. Time magazine named Rollerblades one of the top 100 products of the 20th century. Exploring Olson’s life of innovation, inventing, entrepreneurship, fitness and the celebration of life, the book will showcase Scott's development of the company he built on a skate string and determination immediately following his graduation from a suburban Minnesota high school in 1978.
The book will tell of the many challenges and successes he met along the way, and will explain how a venture capitalist later forced Scott out of the business he had launched. Readers will learn how Scott showed up in courtrooms on Rollerblades and subsequently managed to navigate the legal and business hurdles to remain within what would become an explosive industry. Scott Olson has continued to invent and develop products for the fitness-minded person and for sporting goods and other industries. These innovations include: Rollerbag, Penguin Country, Kong Pong, the Lunar Bed, Rowbike and the soon-to-be-launched SkyRide, an elevated human-powered monorail.
In Rollerblade: An Entrepreneurial Dream Story, Scott will talk about the highs and lows of his career, offering advice and inspiring readers to dream big. "It’s an exciting story with amusing, educational and poignant anecdotes," says Scott.
"I’ve made mistakes and I’ll be candid about them and what I learned from them. I faced near bankruptcy, underwent years of lawsuits against the Rollerblade company which I founded, and lost relationships with friends and even family. I’ve also been very lucky and have had a lot of success in my career," Scott adds. "I’ve met a lot of great people, including long-time business colleagues and mentors, good friends, other pro and Olympic athletes and celebrities like Wayne Gretzky, Bruce Springsteen, and John F. Kennedy, Jr., some of whom I turned-on to their first pair of blades."
The reader will enjoy hearing about many fascinating experiences in Olson's life. "I’ve been arrested, gotten into brawls on my blades, traveled by freight trains and kidnapped cult members to save them at the request of their families. I’ve partied with some of the highest-profile business families in the world, including the Pillsbury’s, the Cargill’s, and Dayton’s, and as well, gone on hunting trips with the families that built and still operate General Mills and Honeywell.”
Rollerblade: The Entrepreneurial Dream Story isn’t just for people who are presently entrepreneurs and inventors. This book is for anyone and everyone with an idea and with a dream. Readers of all kinds will be inspired—people in all kinds of jobs who dream of breaking away from the 9 to 5 grind in hopes of becoming the next Steve Jobs. "I will share both the good and the bad of what has happened to me," says Scott, "with hope that this story motivates others, spurring on their entrepreneurial pursuits." Evident in so many of his inventions, Scott is a firm believer that fitness should be an important part of everyone's life. "I weave that theme into the story wherever I can, with the goal of encouraging my readers to get up off the couch, get motivated, become innovative and live a healthy and fulfilling life. That's what my lifestyle, my dreams, my innovations, and my adventures are all about" Scott says.
Above all, this book will share the story of how one entrepreneur literally skated across the country and through many roadblocks, succeeding through persistence, enthusiasm and a willingness to not to be afraid to ask for help, diligently learning and promoting all along the way. "This book, first and foremost, will be an exciting and inspiring read," promises Scott.

Now To Get the Wheels Rolling
Scott is a true free-spirit and consummate innovator. As a friend and fan of his infectious spirit, my goal is to raise $45,000 to get Scott's story written, published and in bookstores by March 31, 2013. In order to do this, I'm hiring a reputable, seasoned writer. That’s where the first $20,000 of my goal comes in. The balance of the funds will be used to self-publish 10,000 hardcover copies of the book, and cover costs of editing, layout, publicity, order and reward fulfillment. With a experienced writer and publisher prepared to tackle exploring the adventures of Scott Olson's life and tell his story, I respectfully ask for your help to make it happen. To be part of bringing the story of the man who spawned a worldwide phenomenon, created jobs, opened new markets, inspired fitness across the globe and generated millions of dollars in U.S. and international economies, please pledge now and let’s get the wheels rolling!
