Super-Champion is a long-form political cartoon dressed up in the guise of state-issued propaganda. It concerns the adventures of Barron Drumpf, the genetically engineered and hypnotically trained son of Supreme Leader Donald Drumpf. Barron started his life as a loyal soldier, but after being betrayed by his father, he begins to question his role in the atrocities committed by the American Empire.
Super Champion was created by cartoonist JD Faith (Virgil, Image Comics) and me, Jakob Free, writer of The Cycle, a long-running webcomic that was collected in digital form and released on Comixology last year thanks to the Kickstarter audience.
In addition to our contributions, Super Champion contains color art by Ben Wilsonham (Deep State, Boom Studios), pin-ups by David Lafuente (Ultimate Spider-Man, Marvel Comics) and Giannis Milonogiannis (Prophet, Image Comics). It was designed by the folks at AndWorld Design.
Part political cartoon, part Paul Verhoeven-inspired action comic, Super Champion is a tale made in the grand tradition of American superhero comics, an artform that has, since its inception, delved into the thorniest aspects of our political world (despite what you may have heard from certain groups on Twitter). An earlier, uncolored version of the story was released by Study Group Comics on January 20th, 2017 (Inauguration Day). If we are able to achieve our Kickstarter goal, a high-quality, full-color print version of Super Champion will be released for the very first time.
JD and I created this comic in an effort to express some of our political frustrations in a humorous way. In addition to the 20 pages of comic book art contained within Super Champion #1, we have also created several in-narrative newspaper articles and propaganda-inspired editorial segments.
What you can get by contributing to this campaign:
- The Comic itself (in print and/or digital format)
- The "Make Fascism Lame Again" sticker
- The Super Champions of America Club enamel pin
- Some of mine and JD's previously-published comics
- A sketch from JD himself

Risks and challenges
Since Super-Champion is already complete in terms of art and design, the risks are minimal. All that needs to be done at this point is to print and manufacture the book and items, and then ship out said items! And after running a successful Kickstarter campaign last summer, I am confident that I have a legitimate grasp on how Kickstarter works and how best to use it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
