We wanted to make a tasty food product & knew the best way to be successful was to make a scrumptious candy bar!
Thanks for taking the time to read about our project...
Celebrity chef Guy Fieri –well known as host of the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” as well as host of the former NBC primetime’s game show series “Minute to Win It” -- has encouraging words for this project.
Here's the Back Story:
The entrepreneurial Tucker Fish, 13, has created a candy bar he plans to debut this winter. While Tucker is taking the creative lead, his parents are sponsoring the project to qualify for Kickstarter.
Tucker’s project is his candy bar and his objective will be to further develop the prototype over the next six months. This will also include the development of its packaging, labeling, design and logo, as well as a number of focus groups that will help him gain insight into its consumer appeal and market strategies for various targeted demographics.
The candy bar is called the "College Bound Bar," in part, because Tucker plans to study business in college.
The Kickstarter Project's funds will be specifically used to
purchase raw ingredients in bulk (~$250) and to purchase commercial grade
kitchen equipment (~$1,000) like mixers, prep tables, kitchen utensils, cookie
sheets, and cutting boards. A portion of the funds will also pay for packaging
and marketing material, and to establish a presence online (~$1,250).
Any additional funds raised beyond his goal will allow him to rent commercial kitchen space so he can produce the candy bars at a faster rate, and will allow him to rent permanent space at the local markets around Santa Rosa, CA.
Tucker is collaborating closely with five adult mentors in
the business field, as well as with his parents, Peg Melnik and Tim Fish, the
authors of "The Napa & Sonoma Explorer's Guide."
As for the Guy Fieri reference... The ever-resourceful Tucker showed a proposal about his candy bar to Guy. Soon after, Guy called Tucker and said:
"Tucker, you're doing a great job. Taking the time to track me down and get your candy bar into my hands showed great initiative and it's that kind of drive that's going to help you win. Keep up the good work!"
While Tucker is partnering with adults, he knows being a kid has its advantages. As he puts it: "I'm a kid, so I know firsthand about the sweet tooth. Trust me, a candy bar made by a kid will get it right. Only a kid would know what kids really like in a bar."
Thank you for your support!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The greatest risk we see is being able to fulfill everyone's orders on a timely basis should the sales of College Bound Bar take off. We have been looking into leasing commercial kitchen space as a mitigant should the need arise.
