"The Way" is a documentary that follows a grassroots movement of believers all over the world who've drastically redesigned their lives, after searching out answers to questions like:
- Why is 'Jesus' not a Hebrew name?
- If Jesus lived a perfect life, why do modern-day Christians live so differently from Him, in everything from our diet to our dress to our holidays and day of worship?
- If God never changes, why is His moral code for modern-day believers different from the one He gave everyone in the Old Testament?
- And why do we see the apostles observing Passover and other biblical festivals that are nowhere to be found in our modern day church?
We've travelled from London to Los Angeles to talk to pastors, historians, authors, Ivy League theologians and every day believers to find the answers. We've gone from Arkansas to New York to talk with believers who've recently changed every part of their lives, sometimes leaving their churches, family and friends to live as they see the Bible is calling them.
The people in this movement are re-learning what God loves, what His name is and what He wants from us. They're relearning wrong from right and finally feeling like a “peculiar” people.
We’re a husband and wife team who’ve been captivated by this movement and we want everyone to hear the story. Luke, the director, is an award-winning journalist and videographer and Kayte, the producer, is a professional musician and non-fiction writer.
What we’ve learned in documenting this movement are things we never heard in church—and we've gone to church all our lives. We're so excited for you to be a part of sharing this story with the world.
This graph shows where every dollar will go. For example, where it says Drone Operator, the details are: we need to hire a drone operator for one day to put a 4k camera in the sky for the final scene of the film. We'll be releasing details soon about how you can be a part of this final scene, no matter where you live!
Your giving to help create this documentary isn't simply a contribution - it's a purchase! Pray! This is definitely one of the biggest tasks we've ever taken on, and we'd so appreciate your prayers for: wisdom in telling the story, protection while traveling and for all of the pieces to come together.
And most of all, thank you for reading all of this and for joining us, we hope to thank you in person one day.
Risks and challenges
The challenges of any feature-length documentary are many, and we've encountered most of them. Luckily a lot of those are behind us already.
Some include: helping interview subjects feel comfortable enough to open up in front of the camera and having the right equipment and experience with that equipment to capture beautiful shots.
As a videographer and journalist I've told hundreds of stories and edited many short documentaries and features. This project demands that experience, and employs the video and editing equipment I already have to finish the project.
Another challenge is vetting facts and doing research on the claims we encounter. The point of any journalistic piece is to display the facts and focus on the truth. This project is no different and we're trying to clean away millennia of misconceptions from organized religion, as well as popular fallacies within the movement circulating online.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
