About this project
The primary mission of the Tsunami Bass Experience is to promote and facilitate proper Bass Culture appreciation by and for the creators, producers, performers and wobble rousing lovers of low end frequency music while also introducing the uninitiated to an innovative experience in bass culture via our interactive sound installation called the TBE ~WaVe~ 2.0.
Help us build The Wave, a dance floor that vibrates! People dancing on the Wave literally feel music from head to toe as they hear it on our high-end 20,000+ watt sound system. The bass-heavy dance music performed by our international roster of DJ producers and musicians is specially chosen to maximize the effects of the entire system. The audio system and dance floor are complemented by a light and video show projected on a screen shaped like a crashing tidal wave, providing a one-of-kind immersive audio, visual and kinesthetic experience.
First conceived in 2008 at Burning Man, TBE co-founders and co-producers ShiZaru.zoe and Andrew Morphous have been collaborating ever since and at last debuted the first ~WaVe~ prototype at the Funhause Technology Fair in Dumbo BK in early 2011.
Next, after several underground event applications to further our research and development, the 2011 ~WaVe~1.0 continued to grow and appeared at a number of freeBASSin' events throughout 2011. Our gift to all, showcasing multiple, ever so gifted line-ups of the finest local, national and international bass culture talent available to us, at many free events such as Figment NYC 2011 where we hosted a 3 day line up...
... under taking a mobile version of the ~WaVe~ inside a rental truck at the Lost Horizon Night Market in Brooklyn NY in May, 2011...
... and even holding freeBASSin' events in public spaces such as at McCarren Park for all to wobble out in Tsunami Bass Experience style!
Our debut year culminated the year with a determined large scale Burning Man 2011 debut (at the BRC CAMPus of the TBE Multiversity of Bass Culture Appreciation at 10&Graduation), providing an entire week of proper bass culture appreciation by and for the denizens of Black Rock City.
The previous budgets for the first four years of the TBE~WaVe~ project, as well as the Tsunami Bass Sound System (usage donated for free via MorphSaru Corp) used in conjunction with the ~WaVe~ has been completely self-funded by its creators, co-founders ShiZaru.zoe and Andrew Morphous.
The TBE ~WaVe~ is our gift to the various groups in which we actively participate in collaboration with many like-minded colleges and fellow artists from the local, national and international Bass communities, as well as the international Burner community, we have showcased and featured many artists from both worlds at every TBE ~WaVe~ event whether we are freeBASSin' or fundBASSin'.
The Tsunami Bass Experience consistently sought to provide an inclusionary and interactive experience that has the potential to change both internal and external perceptions of an oft misaligned, misunderstood genre of music we know as Bass Culture. While our few attempts at fundraising in the summer of 2011 fell short of yielding more than great vibes, good times and lots of R&D opportunities to perfect our design, every appearance of the ~WaVe~ in 2011 was extremely well received and we have been consistently encouraged by so many to continue and expand our efforts. Well into our forth year of this legacy that we have built ourselves, proven we have learned and experienced what it takes to execute, in several locations and we are now reaching out to our various communities for a little support to enable the 2012 TBE ~WaVe~ 2.0 to be more fiscally viable for the Tsunami Bass Experience collective.
HOW WILL THE MONEY RAISED BE USED by TBE?
All funds raised by this 2012 Kickstarter campaign will go solely to pay for the materials required to build, equipment needed to run, transportation to deliver, this campaign (fees), and power generation costs associated with executing multiple appearances of the ~WaVe~ 2.0 during 2012 and beyond including, but not limited to; Figment NYC (June 9th) , Transformus, Burning Man, and various local area free and fundBASSin' events. It does not pay for any personal expenses, producer, performer or artist fees, or any other such costs.
A breakdown of expenses this fund will cover include the following:
Material costs include high quality ecologically obtained lumber, proper treatment/sealant, and fittings for production of eight new dance platforms constructed to enable a long lasting mobile installation for indoor/outdoor day/night usage for the year. Experimenting with various materials we have developed and designed upgraded platforms that will replace the worn prototypes from 2011. The new platforms constructed for use in the 2012 ~WaVe~2.0 will be used throughout 2012 are designed to transition into our next generation framing planned for 2013, and as such, consecutively utilized. Sculpture material costs, although reduced by recycling of the 2011 ~WaVe~ PVC piping, fabric, reinforcements, rebar and lights from the 2011 ~WaVe~1.0 are recycled, so the 2.0 upgrade only requires half the additional materials be acquired. Equipment costs include a few new transducers and amps and the remaining budget will be used to cover the ~WaVe~ 2.0 transportation (truck, gas) and generator rentals/fuel costs.
While we are "burners," the ~WaVe~2.0 for 2012 is not a project that will be burned. As in previous years, materials and equipment obtained and used in festivals during 2012 will be reused and recycled for multiple future appearances of the ~WaVe~ in coming years, thereby reducing future costs and leaving less trace. The only trace our installation leaves is the afterglow of fine low frequency vibes and an enhanced perception of bass culture and resulting edutainment and how it can be appreciated.
We hope you will back us by pledging any amount or purchasing either a small or large reward. And do come enjoy the fruits of our labor at any event we have!! Support & be supported by the Tsunami Bass Experience ~WaVe~ 2.0 and we hope to see you wobbling out with us at one of our many appearances in 2012 and beyond. "Feel the vibe from here to Asia, DuBtRiP fLiPfAnTaSiA~!!"
The Tsunami Bass Experience ~WaVe~2.0 for Burning Man 2012 project consists of a visual installation in the shape of a crashing tsunami wave with a series of modular platforms that transduce the low end frequencies the music produced thereby affording a participant a 'BodySonic' style kinesthetic means of interacting with the audio experience, bass culture, being presented. In some events, this is further enhanced by visuals yielding a a multi-sensory, perception changing conditions under which the designated '~WaVe~ worthy" bass culture music the bass masters wield can best be appreciated. The installation sculpture is designed in the shape of a large tsunami wave to represent our dual wave particle and wave themed concept which permeates all aspecst of the multi-sensory experience we provide.
Won't you help us by supporting our mission to provide proper bass culture appreciation to oh so thirsty nation? Come feel what we yapping about....wobble the TBE ~WaVe~2.0!!
