1.) Welcome and thank you for stopping by. I appreciate your time. Truly!
2.) FIRST OFF, WHAT IS A KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN?
Kickstarter is a way for fans to help an artist produce an album. It's popularity stems from the fact that most artists cannot afford to produce an album on their own and by using Kickstarter, artists are able to present their project to the people who enjoy their music and would like see a project become successful.
I have heard from so many of you that you would like a new album from me. I have always been able to tour on a consistent basis in order to raise the money to produce an album. I have started to tour again, but my schedule has been scaled back dramatically because of the balancing act I need to maintain with my family. And so, because of all your fan interest in a new album and because I unfortunately can't visit all the many cities I love so I can see you all, I was brought to Kickstarter. I truly feel it is a unique way to unite fans and friends to be a part of a creative process unlike any other.
3.) VICKY, WHERE THE HECK HAVE YOU BEEN?
I can't even begin to describe how my life has changed in the past few years. When I released Long Ride, I was touring over 200 dates a year. Then in 2010, we welcomed our daughter into the world and decided as a family that I would take some time away from touring to be home. She has enriched our lives beyond all measure, but she also requires a lot of my time:) Hence, my three year hiatus from recording. But here's some super awesome news: I am heading back into the studio in July!
I've missed touring, seeing everyone after shows, and catching up on what has transpired in your life since I last visited your town. However, I have made excellent use of the quiet moments in the evenings, playing softly on my guitar and piano while quietly singing and crafting new lyrics. After two years, I have found myself with a collection of songs that I am beyond thrilled to share with you. The new album is entitled Dust & Echoes.
3.) WHAT WILL BE ON THE ALBUM?
Dust & Echoes contains several songs that I've been performing for the past few years like "Tennessee", "Washington Street", and "Never Enough." It also has a song inspired by our daughter entitled, "Shine", and of course, a love song for my hubby, "Here/Stay." There are several other new songs that will round out the full-length album but I don't want to ruin it by telling you everything!
Stylistically, don't fret. Each song will have the folky Americana vibe that stays true to who I am as a songwriter.
4.) WHAT DOES MY GIFT ACTUALLY DO?
Excellent question. Your gift goes DIRECTLY to the recording and creation of Dust & Echoes. It doesn't go towards anything else. YOU will be a part of creating something beautiful.
5.) WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE?
In the business of recording music, you get what you pay for. When you take the cheap route on recording, it will sound cheap and those are the records you listen to once and then you never listen to them again. If you have purchased my albums in the past (THANK YOU!), you know that I hold a high standard for how a producer captures my sound. I will be working with Matt Patrick at his studio, The Library, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He did an amazing job producing Long Ride in 2009. I also hire excellent musicians that are committed to the music and making the songs as great as they can be. Such qualified musicians deserve professional pay. Compare this to a record label artist? They would easily spend $200,000 on studio expenses. Why is mine so much less? Because independent artists are resourceful and utilize every penny to it's fullest potential. For example, many artists will take months to record an album. We will be extremely organized and will record this album in one week, just as we did for 'Long Ride.' The individuals working on this album are familiar with my music and we are able to record as a cohesive unit. Trust us, we know what we are doing!
6.) WHEN WILL I GET MY BRAND NEW ALBUM??
Sometime in October! Who-hoo!
7.) HEY VICKY-MY QUESTION ISN'T LISTED!
Email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will answer as soon as I am able.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your support over the years. It means the world to me.
All my best to you~
