Thank you very much! Spellcaster University is funded! Now, let's try to go even further with these stretch goals.
The in-game video presentation :
And for those who supported us the first time, you will find a summary of the changes to this second kickstarter at the end of the page.
In Spellcaster University, you take on the role of a magic university director in a world of heroic fantasy full of angry orcs and fanatical inquisitors. Build your school, manage your budget, recruit teachers. Will you make it a high place of black magic, with the best teachers of necromancy and demonology? Or a place in harmony with nature to train druids and shamans? Or why not train adventurous mages, offering them options to learn to fight and be discreet? But this will require surviving the ruthless attacks of the Orc tribes and the controls of the education authorities.
Spellcaster University is a management game: you build your school, manage the budget, appoint teachers. But it is also a "card driven" game: all your constructions, your improvements, are played with the help of cards. You draw these cards from different decks linked to different magic schools. When you draw, you look at three cards and keep one. Chance remains controlled. But so, each game is different. You won't build the same magic university twice, and the game has great replayability.
Manage the well-being of your students by building refectories, dormitories, rest rooms... but also their discipline, by building a dungeon for example...
Customize your rooms with powerful artifacts such as Xar'Saroth's raclette machine or the Soul Devouring Bed. Everyone has a unique power that will help you improve your university.
Fill your school with legendary creatures: dragons, fauns, pegasus, janitors... they each bring different bonuses. If used properly, they will make your university glorious.
Compose your pedagogical team by choosing your teachers wisely, according to their pedagogy, alignment, personality traits....
Select your students carefully. Traits, personality, alignment, wealth... each of these aspects has its importance. Especially wealth.
Offer your students a glorious future: at the end of their studies, you discover their destiny (necromancer, archimage, peasant...) according to the success of their studies, and win new bonuses. These bonuses can follow you throughout the campaign, so form them well!
Open specialized classes to make your students more effective. Each class allows you to define a program, but also special features that will be shared by all the students in the class. Why not make a class of nerds, sportsmen, or with the most beautiful?
Flee the armies of darkness by building your university in isolated environments: lake, mountain, desert, volcano, giant turtle back, etc...
Collect powerful grimoires to strengthen your university and face increasingly hostile environments in a replayable campaign. Each campaign will be very different depending on your grimoires and the students you have trained.
A living world in which you interact with multiple characters and factions, via a series of events. Will you choose to accept threats from the Orc clans and pay them a tribute? Or will you choose to confront them when they attack your university?
Discover a crazy fantasy world where too many things have the same horns as the orcs, and where the catapulted guinea pig is the heart of the postal system because of its great penetration into the air. Who said "owls"?
If we succeed in achieving the goal of this kickstarter, we will be able to properly finance the end of SpellCaster University's development. It will be wonderful. But if you finance us even more, we have planned a number of bonuses to be worthy of your support! All these stretch goals will be offered as free updates within 5 months of the game's release (it seems the best compromise to avoid delaying release too much). In addition to these awards, each additional euro will help us make Spellcaster University even better (and allow developers to eat healthier).
Create your student: Some levels of funding allow you to make your mark in the game by designing a unique student, who can appear in the game randomly, and who will serve as your avatar in the game's credits. We will contact you after the crowdfunding to design it, but you can already get an idea of what you can customize here.
In the world of Spellcaster University, magicians use guinea pigs to carry their messages over long distances. Their profiling gives them an excellent coefficient of penetration into the air. Pay tribute to these courageous messengers by helping us to make Spellcaster University known on social networks!

How much will I have to pay to have the physical rewards delivered?
If you choose a level without any physical rewards, you will have no shipping costs, otherwise here are the prices:
In which languages Spellcaster University will be available?
We develop Spellcaster University in English and French. Further translations may follow depending on sales and community support, but we cannot promise anything at this time.
On which platform Spellcaster University will be available?
The game will initially be released on windows and mac, and a version for linux will be available within two months of the launch at most. In the long run, we would also like to bring the game to Switch, but that is not what this funding is about.
Our team is confident in its ability to carry out Spellcaster University, as the game is already well advanced. Nevertheless, so far we have been able to finance ourselves with our own funds, but we would like to be able to finalize the game under the best possible conditions. This implies being able to finance the studio for a few more months.
Finally, because we want to remain perfectly transparent with you, we must not forget that today Kickstarter is also a great communication tool. For a small studio like us, this campaign helps us to make ourselves known and to get in direct contact with you. It is something that, with our budget, would be very difficult otherwise...
Trying to live from his creations is a challenging adventure. There are ups and downs and among these downs, we had the failure of our first kickstarter. We have tried to learn from this with this second launch, and among the major changes, we can note the considerable decrease in the threshold to be reached. Why? How? Are you out of your mind? Aren't you greedy if you had asked so much the first time? Let's try to explain this choice in a few points:
- First, the soundtrack will probably be composed internally. Our in-house composer has proposed audio tracks that we really like, and this should significantly reduce costs.
- Since the first kickstarter, the planned release date has come considerably closer. That's dumb, but there are simply less months of development left to finance.
- The targeted amount will make us finish the development "at a loss". But it'll always be better than nothing! We prefer to play it safe on this second kickstarter.
- We are hoping to obtain funding from the CNC, a French video game support organization that could then enable us to compensate for the drop in the kickstarter funding level.
We have also lowered the prices of many rewards. For the same reasons as before, we can afford to make a lower margin on sales. The main change is the reduction of the base price to 18€. In fact, we made a mistake during the first kickstarter: we thought we were selling the game at the same price as on Steam (20€), but it was unfair because sales on Steam often benefit from discounts, even at release (we target 10% discount at the release). Now, backers are no longer cheated, and in addition all contributors are thanked in the credits, regardless of the funding! It's better this way.
Risks and challenges
Of course, a project like Spellcaster University is not without risk for a small independent studio like ours. Nevertheless, we have put all the chances on our side, for several reasons.
First, one of the common dangers with games developed by small studios is that the costs could exceed the initial estimates, and so the game simply cannot be finished. In our case, the majority of the project has already been financed from our own funds. The game could almost come out as it is, because we've been working on it for a long time. Kickstarter crowdfunding allows us above all to refine the development to obtain a game that completely satisfies us. Even in the event of a disaster, development will go all the way, because the end is, indeed, not very far away.
Secondly, our team is small, but used to work on projects and aware of the importance of finishing things off. This is not obvious because Spellcaster University is a vast and rich game, but we have set clear limits and goals to deliver a complete game in the end.
Finally, our last major strength is that we work with computers enchanted by arcana magic and have runic keyboards blessed by ancient forest spirits. It is very unlikely that anything unfortunate will happen to us with such artifacts.
If complications do occur, we will keep you informed with transparency throughout the development process.
Thank you for reading all this!
