Merboston is a mermaid Boston Terrier, and she’s one of the original three Norfolk Merdogs that I designed in 2013. Merboston has similar traits of many land-dwelling Boston Terriers- she’s either going a million miles an hour OR taking a nap in the sunshine. There’s really no middle ground, and we’re okay with that! Just look at that adorable squishy face!
Thanks to the success and experiences of the 2015 Merpug Kickstarter and 2016 Mercorgi Kickstarter, Merboston now has her time to shine and be made into an adorable plush for everyone to adopt!
Merboston measures 10" tall, is made with soft Minky fabric, and features embroidered eyes and scales.
Plush production is very expensive, but with your help everyone can have the opportunity to enjoy this cute and cuddly Merboston plush! I’ve created many different reward tiers to choose from, and I am extremely grateful for every single pledge made. Sharing this project on your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media also helps in a huge way. Thank you so much for your support!
The goal of $6,800 will allow me to cover:
- Plush production and shipping costs
- Backer rewards and shipping costs
- Kickstarter and Stripe fees
I taught myself how to sew and started making plush toys in 2009. Now, I've sold my handmade toys all over the world and enjoy participating in anime and comic conventions on the east coast. Each plush is lovingly hand-crafted in my home studio in Norfolk, VA.
I started drawing a line of characters in 2013 called the "Norfolk Merdogs." Essentially, they were some of my favorite dog breeds with mermaid tails! I made plush dolls of some of the Merdogs, then expanded to pillows, accessories and jewelry.
In 2015, I launched my first Kickstarter for professionally manufactured Merpug plush. In 2016, I continued the journey and had Mercorgi manufactured. With your help, this Kickstarter campaign will be successful, and the Merboston plush will be available to adopt and love!
It takes 14-30 days after the Kickstarter project ends for funds to go through. Once funding is received, I can pay the manufacturer. Plush production generally takes around five months. Once I receive the Merboston dolls, I will check them over and then mail them to their new homes, along with any other rewards.
I'm estimating that I'll be able to start shipping smaller reward tiers in June/July and plush reward tiers in November 2017. I've had an online shop for the past six years and am experienced at shipping my work worldwide.
If we make it past our $6,800 goal, I've created some "Stretch Goal" rewards to thank you all for your continued support!
Risks and challenges
It takes 14-30 days after the Kickstarter project ends for funds to go through. Once funding is received, I can pay the manufacturer so they can order the supplies required for production in bulk. They will then construct the plush. Plush production generally takes around five months. Once I receive the shipment of Merboston, I will check them over and then mail them to their new homes, along with any other rewards.

~ U.S. BACKERS ~
I will be shipping USPS Priority, First Class or Parcel Post (for heavier packages). USPS Priority includes insurance and tracking, and it generally takes one to three days for your package to arrive. USPS First Class includes light insurance and tracking and generally takes five to seven days to arrive. Parcel Post packages take seven to ten days to arrive. Please keep an eye on my Kickstarter Project Updates to be notified when your reward tier ships. If your package doesn't arrive within 15 days of the related Project Update, please message me so that I can file a missing package report with USPS.
~ INTERNATIONAL BACKERS ~
I will be shipping USPS First Class International, which is the most affordable option available.
Please note: You are responsible for any of your country’s Customs Fees. To remain ethical in my business practices, I will not mark international shipments as a “gift” since this is against the law. USPS First Class International takes anywhere from ten to thirty-five days to arrive depending on your location. There may be Customs hold ups that are beyond my control. If you haven't received your package in the given time frame, please contact your local Post Office and/or Customs Office to inquire if your package is being held for Customs fees. Tracking is sometimes available depending on the destination.
~ RISKS & CHALLENGES ~
Risks and challenges involved in plush manufacturing include production delays and defective plush. As a plush toy maker, I have very high standards for my manufactured plush and will only be sending you a plush that meets those standards. In the event of any delays or issues, I will be fully transparent with all backers and keep the lines of communication open via the Kickstarter blog for this project. New Kickstarter Project Updates are emailed to backers, so please check your email for each update.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
