Thank you for listening. Hear the story of Blossom Dearie told through her music and my interpretations of the songs she wrote with Johnny Mercer, Dave Frishberg, her brother Walter Birchett, School House Rocks collaborator Bob Dorough, and Mahriah Blackwolf (lyricist on three of her special songs in this First Songbook).
Mahriah wrote after hearing this version of " I Like You' You're Nice:
"I love her interpretation and think it's one of the best! "
I am excited and delighted to share the music and to keep this beautiful legacy alive. Come along and have a listen to the First Blossom Dearie Songbook.
Playing Blossom Dearie's last apartment piano (her Yamaha Clavinova) is Jon Delfin with Bill Pace on double bass. We will perform a premiere NYC performance at the The United Solo Theater Festival on the 15th of November at Theater Row's Studio Theater.
The goal with this campaign is to get the show, currently in development after previews this spring (with huge nods to TinaMarie Casamento and David Libby of Broadway Demo), firmly up and on it's feet.
I hope to take it on the road, to promote Blossom's songbook, and to share it again with those who knew her and loved her and those that will begin to know her through me. I hope to bring it to a theater, cabaret or salon near you. Every song in it was written by or for her. It is a part of the tartan fabric of the great American songbook.
