      Q. it was occurring to me, of all the class ideas I have brought up, an unarmed combatant of some kind would be interesting.

We defintly like the idea of a unarmed class. We might do a eastern vampire ninja or monk class that used unarmed combat and magic some sort of close range combat mage class with lots of close range damage and knockback powers.

      Q. If I upgrade to 250, can I choose to instead design two monsters or maybe 2 monsters and something a weapon concept?

We're not going to hit our target but we got loads of feedback so were going to cancel this Kickstarter work on the game and artwork a bit more and then put it out again. We would definitely like your involvement in that process Kyle.

      Q. In a setting where the supernatural exists, are there necromancers and maybe a lich or two running around?

Yes we see the shadow world containing a lot of classic undead creatures such as Lich and Necromancers, additionally we really like the Cuthulu Mythos so expect to see a lot of influence form H.P. Lovecraft in there.

I think at this early stage were going to steer away from offering any real world rewards such as tee shirts and stuff we have to get made.

We would naturally love to have real world loot we can hand out to our friends, fans and supporters we just feel the idea is so new that stuff can wait until we have the game up and running.

Pets (Familiars) are going to be a major part of all classes and not specific to the Shaman or any one character.

We definitely see the Shaman and other characters having class specific pets but also being able to access a list of more general pets that can be chosen, swapped and levelled up depending on how the player wants to spec out his character and the type of game style he favours.

Our current thinking is that pets will add special powers, boost players class abilities or in fill in tactical gaps in a players skill set. For instance a Vampire Knight who is strong against ground targets but weak against flying targets can add a flying pet that will be strong against flying targets allowing the Vampire Knight to shore up his weakness in that attack type.

Kyle in respect to the brewing shadow war.

We have a website over http://www.vampirecities.com/

There you can find out all about Vampires, their history, their powers, backgrounds for some of the factions and even biographies for some of the most famous and infamous Vampires and other characters in the Shadow World.

The Shadow World is ancient, equal part fact and equal part myth.

      Vampires have always existed.

Long ago its rulers split the world into great city states to make it easier to manage the great human herds.

They are managed by the mysterious Shadow Council. The shadow council fear technology and discovery by mankind above all else. Some on the council secretly plan to launch a location tracking technology that masquerades as a location based game “This is called Project Rose Garden”.

Humans are so easily distracted during their brief lives some on the the Shadow Council believe it will be easy to trick humanity into being more easily tracked and hunted by weaponising games.

This decision has split the shadow council and the vampire world. Some believe this is too much power for the council to wield.

After all he who controls the herds controls the hunters or so the old vampire saying goes..

Other hardline Vampires think it is not enough and it is time for a more “Radical” approach to the “Human” problem.

Blood War is the ancient term used to describe open hostility between Vampires and even now the greatest the world has ever seen threatens to engulf the shadow world.

hmm... looking back at some of our conversation from earlier, and looking at some of the other kickstarters, maybe some lower priced tiers involving T-shirts, ball caps, and other similar memorabilia would be cool. also, is this project a part of the Kicking it Forward movement?

    16. Kyle Lovett on July 27, 2012

So beyond actual mechanics of the game, you have mention of a brewing shadow war. What sort of factions can we expect to see?

    17. Kyle Lovett on July 27, 2012

For the shaman concept, I was thinking more of a character that has some pet options unique to it, and their buffs would be to boost either their allies, their pets, or themselves, and even to weaken enemies with curses.

    18. Simple Lifeforms 2-time creator on July 24, 2012

      Kyle

I will deal with the games design stuff first:

Werewolf Shaman sounds really good. When I hear Shaman I tend to think of support classes, which is tricky because the game should be soloable. Perhaps Shaman skillset revolves around summoning creatures; which would use the same game mechanics as the proposed pet system. As you level up your Werewolf Shaman you would be improving the various summon spells and creating bigger and tougher creatures.

The three main characters have all got their own story arcs, the basic trajectory of the story goes like this: you start as a generic character and hear rumours of a 'blood war'. When you get to level 20 you can take on a character class (Knight, Mage, Ranger) as you take your part in this Blood War, and as each of these characters fights their own way through the Blood War they find out more about themselves and the Shadow World of vampires.

Stealing from monsters. Well this happens at the moment, as each monster has loot drops. In RPGs this tends to manifest as a %bonus to drop rate for Thief/Rogue/Ranger characters. I don't think this is likely, because there is a lot of work to be done on play balancing and %bonuses to drop rates or XP are notoriously hard to balance.

I am currently working on a visual demo of the game which we will add it as an update ASAP.

On the other stuff, we are currently an all-volunteer team and so we always appreciate any offers of help. I will PM you and we can have a chat.

      cheers
      ed

Was sitting around and thought a werewolf shaman would prove interesting. If this thing doesn't get funded I'd love to help out as a creative assistant of some sort. This is an amazing concept, and I am an idea cannon when time allows. Another idea: when you gave some more game footage (something like some combat and crafting) and put that at the start of a video, or even its own video. It may raise more interest. Also, are the two characters we see for the art mascot characters? Like, do they have some backstory, or are they just examples of character classes? Final idea for the moment: stealing items from monsters. Maybe a special class? Or maybe an ability of a current one.

    20. Kyle Lovett on July 20, 2012

Actually like armor sets and maybe even weapons themed to go with said armor.

    21. Simple Lifeforms 2-time creator on July 19, 2012

      Kyle,
I really like the idea of an artbook. We are at quite early stage and I am not sure all the concept stuff is up to the standard for printing - time is just too short. On the equipment set ideas, do you mean like armor sets or something else?

    22. Kyle Lovett on July 18, 2012

will there be any way for people to contribute various equipment set ideas? or maybe receive printed versions of the bestiary/ Vampire Cities Lore? like maybe with some artwork?

    23. Kyle Lovett on July 18, 2012

actually I design Pencil and Paper Role Playing Games in my free time with a couple friends around the US. So, many video games and P&PRPGs have a few similar things, like what I have mentioned.

    24. Simple Lifeforms 2-time creator on July 18, 2012

Kyle - Yeah, the reward tiers took a lot of thinking about. We opted to keep things simple and I am happy enough with what we have, considering there will never be a huge takeup of the higher tiers.

Just out of interest - are you a game designer yourself? You always seem to have informed questions?

    25. Kyle Lovett on July 17, 2012

it would be really cool to see a few more reward tiers specifically some that allowed multiple monsters, bosses, or even a combination of a boss and monsters.

      ### Question ###
Are there plans on having an in-game bestiary (with some backstory, pictures, maybe even items/materials that can be dropped by the monster) that will include monsters you have encountered?
      ### Answer ###
Yes, but it won't exactly be in-game. We are writing an internal wiki holding the monster, mission, story data etc. and we intend to publish this publicly as the game goes live. Due to the way the game is designed, we can output all the player, game data such as battle logs, drops, stats etc. to a personal space on the wiki. It makes a lot more sense to do it this way due to size limitations on mobile browsers etc.

    27. Simple Lifeforms 2-time creator on July 17, 2012

      Hi Kyle,
Absolutely, I don't see any reason why an in-game bestiary can't be included in the future. Each character will have a backstory and description of its own powers. This will help you to improve your vampire’s skills as you gain levels and progress through the game.

      ### Question ###
I know it is a bit early still to be mentioning this, but whenever more classes start getting added, shouldn't there also be additional game save slots?

      ### Answer ###
You make a good point. One of the benefits of having three slots is that each character has unique crafting items that can be shared between the different characters, and there will be some very high level items that you need all three characters (your knight, mage and ranger in your save slots, or a friend's) to craft. If (or more likely when) we add extra characters then we will have to add extra slots so that you can take advantage of these benefits. The other benefit of having multiple slots is that you can make a party for group missions of all your own characters, rather than having to recruit friends. This means we wont force multiplayer. Those who prefer to solo can still do the high level group missions.

      ### Question ###
Also, will captured locations be share-able between saves? or share-able with friends?

      ### Answer ###
Absolutely. You can share locations that you find with friends or post a link online. The idea is that there will be a lot of variability between different dungeons, and some will pose interesting challenges, so the ability to share locations that are good for farming certain items, for example, will be really useful. Also, treasure dungeons will appear on the map for only a certain amount of time. We are interested to see how quickly locations like this will be shared. There may be world events where everyone is requested to fight a battle at a certain location, or missions in which you are asked to 'recruit' a certain amount of warriors for a battle in the blood war. There are lots of interesting possibilities :)

With the appearance of the Ouya gaming console (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console) will this game have console somewhere in its future?

      ### ANSWER ###

Kyle great question. Yep we totally see Vampire Cities and our future location based games being played on Smart TVs and Games Consoles we love what Ouya are doing and will definitely have a version for the platform.

      ### Question ###

You mentioned a werewolf barbarian option, I very much like this concept, but maybe a 'vampire blood-rage' type of option that is more bestial than noble, relying on raw power fueled by blood (which could be stored?) could be cool too.

      A. Vampires use blood to fuel their powers. The werewolf player characters would probably use an alternative rage mechanic. The barbarian would be most probably be short range DPS and close melee maybe either using dual weapons or some sort of fast claw attacks that gets stronger over time. He would need to be fairly different from the Vampire Knight which is a two handed tank that does a lot of DPS in the front row. So a good alternative would be a very fast melee class maybe even with super healing and fast recovery of power timers and cooldowns.

      ### Question ###

Close and personal claw and bite attacks and a variety of weapons and armor showing up in this game? it sounds like it, but I haven't seen any gameplay to know this.

      A. Your right were going to have a lot of different classes, weapons and armour to make it interesting and fun. The team are working on a gameplay demo as we speak so stay tuned as that should drop either later this week or early next.

      ### Question ###

side note, the picture we see, is that just the pause menu or what the game looks like in action? I ask cause on my phone that may be very small..

      A. That graphic is a visual target for the designers and artists of how we would see the game in play. Were thinking on mobile devices with smaller screens the action zooms up and all you would see is the whole mission panel or lair or crypt filling up the screen as you interact with that element and being able to swipe between them.

    34. Simple Lifeforms 2-time creator on July 10, 2012

      Kyle

That is exactly what we mean :)

We used to make MMO's and we want our location games to be played by lots of people simultaneously.

In the example of Vampire Cities the bottom room or Crypt in each location will act as an online lobby for all the people actively playing and checked into that location. You will be able to community with these people and eventually we hope to allows players to add these players as team members to group raids and guests similar to Diablo four man play.

    35. Kyle Lovett on July 9, 2012

When you say cross platform, do you mean that your save file/game will be completely accessible on all of these platforms simultaneously-ish?

    36. Kyle Lovett on July 9, 2012
