A book of hat knitting patterns with interesting shapes and lavish embellishments that will change how you think about hand knit hats.
Thanks to everyone who has help me reach this point. Since there's still some time I'm setting anew goal of $1400. The extra money will help pay for some travel and equipment expenses associated with the photo shoot. It's not too late to get one of the great rewards!
The idea for this book came about when a dear friend of mine, who makes the loveliest hand knit purses and bags, invited me to join her in a gallery show. “Why don’t you make some hats?” she said. And so I did. But I didn’t want to make standard knit caps. I wanted to make hats that hearkened back to the days when a hat was an event. I wanted to make true millinery style hats; confections to wear. The hats I designed had shape and structure, but were not felted, and were embellished to the nines. The hats were knit as one-offs just for the show but once they were together on display, I realized that I had a cohesive collection that simply needed to become a book!
The Project So Far:
I sent the proposal off to a small independent publisher and was thrilled that they shared my vision and agreed to publish the book. Next I contacted Cascade Yarns about providing yarn for the samples. Again, I got an enthusiastic yes! So armed with a publishing agreement and plenty of lovely yarn, I got to work. Based on those original hats from the gallery show, I have created a collection of 13 stylish and unique hats. The samples are knit and the patterns are written.
Why I need your help:
The work is moving along but there are still a few steps left before the book will be ready for publishing. The funds raised here will allow me to:
-Purchase the silk fabrics, ribbons, netting, beads, and vintage buttons used to embellish the hats.
-Hire models, a hair and makeup person, and a photographer to create a professional photo shoot that will capture the glamour of these unusual and elegant hats.
The $1,000 I am trying to raise here will cover the basics but as always, the more money available, the more amazing the finished product!
It is my hope that this book will serve as an inspiration to knitters to push the boundaries of traditional knitting, to be daring, and to knit fabulous hats!
