$20,000? Just to record an album? It may sound like a hefty sum, but only because we've got BIG plans!
For starters, this is a unique campaign in that it is a JOINT Kickstarter project for both the new Fruition album and for Jay Cobb Anderson's solo album! The mere cost of printing two albums is considerable. Jay's album was recorded in a more DIY fashion (with Tyler Thompson of Fruition on engineering duties), but Fruition's new output will be approached from a different angle. Check Jay's Music Video here, and learn more about our project below!
The plan is to record the new Fruition LP at William's Place, located in Mendocino County, CA. William's Place is the studio of Grammy Award winning producer Bill Bottrell, and the birthplace of Tuesday Night Music Club, the double-platinum album from Sheryl Crow. The studio rests on cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean and 200 acres of California Nature Reserve, in the sleepy town of Caspar, CA. Seriously- it's a quiet place. So quiet that they record with with the windows open (oh hiiii ocean!). Fruition's very first tour (or "detour" as we call 'em) consisted largely of playing and staying in this area. Physically speaking, it is an incredibly inspiring and beautiful spot.
Technically speaking, this studio is as good as it gets. We'll be tracking on 2-inch tape with analog equipment, combined with all the state-of-the-art bells and whistles of the modern recording world. Instrument and amp wise it will be like disneyland for us! We are thrilled to have the opportunity to be working and creating at such an amazing spot.
Needless to say, it won't exactly be dirt-cheap to hole-up there for 5 days straight. But it's so very worth it!
The last major expense for our project will be a full-blown six month publicity campaign. With super-pro advertising and press on our team, we will be pushing the Fruition sound across the country with full force! Radio, print, television and internet outlets alike are going to get a big healthy dish of Fruition!
We need your help! It may seem like a big number, but every single cent will be going towards something worthwhile, and every single contributor (that's you!) will be making a real, honest to goodness difference in the success of this album and the future success of this band!
Risks and challenges
We are taking a huge leap of faith here. Fruition has always been a band of dreamers; fairly rational dreamers, mind you, but dreamers nonetheless. This project is bar none the biggest dream we have decided to pursue. To the outsider, it may seem risky to put the future of this album on the shoulders of our friends, and fans. As you all know, however, Fruition has the most amazingly dedicated and supportive family of music-lovers out there.
A recording project of this magnitude is the best way for us to take Fruition to the next level. As each year passes, our albums are becoming more true to the sound we crave, our shows are becoming more and more populated, and our tours are going farther into unknown territory.
This album, and the way we are choosing to approach it, is Fruition's direct avenue to an ever-brightening future. You know it's time. We know it's time. Time to bring Fruition to the masses!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
