Smog Free Tower opens in Tianjin China, new official measurements and Smog Free Bicycles.
We just launched the Smog Free Tower in the public park of Tianjin China which is very well received. A bit tired but happy we love to share the first new image with you.
You can also watch a new movie of the Smog Free Project here with Daan Roosegaarde explaining our next steps and celebrate the dream of clean air. Feel free to share the video with your friends and colleagues!
Also we have more good news: official measurements done by renowned professor Blocken of Technical University of Eindhoven have validated the technical performance of the Smog Free Tower. The results confirm that the tower captures and removes up to 70% of the ingested PM10 and up to 50% of the ingested PM2.5. So we now have independent scientific proof how Smog Free Tower works.
Yet ideas keep on growing, we are working on a new concept called the Smog Free Bicycle based on a workshop we did in Beijing with artist Matt Hope and Prof. Yang from Tsinghua University. The innovative bicycle inhales polluted air, cleans it, and releases clean air around the cyclist. The bicycles will work in similar ways as the Smog Free Tower and provide a healthy and energy friendly solution for urbanites, combatting both traffic congestion and pollution issues in the city. It is currently in the first stage and is intended to become a medium for smog free cities.
Daan Roosegaarde: “Beijing used to be an iconic bicycle city. We want to bring back the bicycle as a cultural icon of China and as the next step towards smog free cities.”
We look forward to keep you posted as our Smog Free journey unfolds.
Best! From Daan and the Studio Roosegaarde team.
