If you love great quality art, enticing scenes of adventure, suspense, mystery, horror, humor and intrigue, then please check out Monsters, Maidens & Mayhem.
So what exactly is Monsters, Maidens & Mayhem?
It’s a full color Art Sketchbook celebrating Classic Horror and Hollywood B-Movies. All 48 pages were inspired by Monster-Movie posters from the 30's through the 70's, which I revamped with a contemporary Comic-Book style twist.
I'll bet you're wondering who I am and why I'm doing this...
About two years ago I stumbled across a site with a giant database of posters from Horror, Sci-Fi, B-Movies, etc. and I wanted to bring them back to life and share them with a whole new generation of comic-book art lovers. But if I was gonna do it, I'd want to make it spectacular. The book would have to have rich, dynamic colors with a comic-book style feel, as well as a great blend of Sci-Fi and campy Horror and a lot of fun to it. Something to where if I saw it online or on a shelf, I’d say, “I’ve gotta get that!”
So for the last year and a half, anytime I've had a spare second, I've been working on Monsters, Maidens & Mayhem. By going through Kickstarter I'll be able to turn all of these poster illustrations, renderings and sketches into an amazing 48 page Trade-Paperback for upcoming Comic-Book Conventions.
A Super-fun write-up about Monsters, Maidens & Mayhem on one of my Favorite Comic-Book news/review sites. How bleeding cool is that?!
Very cool and Uber flattering article about the project by Andrew Little, Co-Founder of CrowdDistrict.com
An Awesome article about Monsters, Maidens & Mayhem by Christopher Coffel from Dark of the Matinee.
Kickstarter Rewards & Exclusives-
By going through Kickstarter you'll get some great Monsters, Maidens & Mayhem Exclusive Pledge-Reward prints, posters (some of which will only be available through Kickstarter), also signed books, Original Sketches and even Original Art-Boards. You can look down below as well as to the right to decide which Pledge Rewards you'd like.
Kickstarter funding goal-
The funding goal for Monsters, Maidens & Mayhem is $3,000. With the pencil and ink illustrations finally done (I drew all of the images myself which means I won’t have to pay for that aspect of the book), all that's left is having the rest of the posters digitally colored, the books and posters printed and shipped, plus the 10% transaction fee from Kickstarter and Amazon for making this project a reality.
If we go further and raise $5,000 (my stretch goal) --everyone who bought a copy of the Trade-Paperback will automatically be upgraded to a Glossy Laminated Hardcover Version!
$7,500- Collectors Gold!
For all of you Collectors out there, I'm adding a Limited Edition/Signature Page to the book. So all Reward Packages at $15 and up will have a Signed and Numbered version of their Hardcover.
In addition to that I'll also be adding 2 Extra pages of content to the book!
$8,500- Ooooh, Shiny Jewel Posters!!!
All Reward Packages at $30 and up will receive an 11x17 poster of the Beautifully Painted concept-art from my upcoming Creator-Owned series Jewel.
$10,000- Jacket Weather
Dust Jackets, and as long as we're going for all the Bells and Whistles, I'll also be having the books Case-Bound to make them even more resistant to wear-and-tear.
$13,000 - More Monsters, Maidens & Mayhem!!
So if we make it to $13,000--everybody cross your fingers, seriously, cross them now;)--I'll be adding 1 more extra page of content to the book!
More cool stuff to look at!!
Who else is involved with the book?
From the Comic-Book and video game industry, here are a few of the uber-talented artists who are helping me bring this book to life with their amazing digital painting skills: Hector Sevilla Lujan, otherwise known as El Sevilla on DeviantArt.com, and who has just breathtakingly beautiful painting capabilities. I mean seriously… look at those colors.
Chuck Pires, who did an amazing job that was well worth the wait.
And the main force behind the book’s awe-inspiring colors; the incredibly talented and super cool to-work-with: David Delanty, otherwise known as Vest on DeviantArt.com. His color depth and rendering capabilities are jaw-dropping and makes your brain go "It's shiny and I want it!"
Also, everyone who orders the book will be able to download a very cool certificate depicting the Monsters, Maidens & Mayhem cover-art to give to that lucky person (or to keep for yourself), that shows a copy of the book has been reserved.
The Kickstarter Reward Packages & Exclusives!
Risks and challenges
The delivery date for almost all rewards will be in June of 2014. After the campaign is over, I'll be keeping everyone up to date on the coloring, design, and printing schedules for the book and all the rewards as we go along.
With the pencil and ink illustrations finally done (I drew all of the images myself which means I won’t have to worry about that aspect of the book), all that's left is having the posters digitally colored in the same dynamic fashion as above (2 1/2 months), and the design/layout work for the interior of the book (1 month). And the turnaround on printing for the books (9-10 weeks), plus packing and shipping all those cool rewards (2 weeks).
In the meantime, everyone who ordered the book will be able to download a very cool certificate depicting the "Monsters, Maidens & Mayhem" cover-art to give to that lucky person (or to keep for yourself), that shows a copy of the book has been reserved.
You know how nothing in life EVER goes perfectly smooth, right? Well, just to give you all a heads up, if there are shipment schedule issues or challenges with the printers, or those pesky day-to-day challenges like getting the perfect colors and color-guides, etc., believe me, I've been through it. Again and again. And I know how to stick it out and get the work done and make it look great!
Transparency is key in a venture like this, so again, I'll be keeping everyone informed as we make our way through this fun project. Thanks for all your support.
All the best.
Nathan-Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Thanks soo much for your interest, but unfortunately I won't be shipping out of the US with this book/project.
It's my 1st Kickstarter project and it's literally a 1-man show putting everything together, so I had to limit the shipping aspect to simplify/manage things on my end.
Sorry about that aspect, I know it sucks, but I really do appreciate your interest in the book.
But at the end of the fulfillment part of this campaign, I'll be opening my Online-Store, and will be making an option for international orders. :)
I'll be posting updates and more fun preview images here as well as over at http://nathanscomicart.deviantart.com if you'd like to check them out just for fun.
I did look at the Digital option, but do to the lack of a DRM on the book (and the frequency of file-sharing with comics), I decided just to stick with the fun hard-copies for right now.
But again, at the end of the fulfillment part of this campaign, I'll be opening my Online-Store, and will be making an option for international orders. :)
