The Bitter Pill is a BYU senior capstone film. It follows a couple's struggle with a painful past and how they choose to face it.
The Bitter Pill follows a young couple, Diane and Alan, who begin to feel a void in their marriage. They also have an unexplained feeling of anxiety toward a certain empty room in their apartment. As Diane searches for answers, she finds that she and her husband had asked their therapist to erase some memories through a form of hypnosis. She must decide if she feels it would be better to leave a painful past alone or to confront it.
The Bitter Pill will serve as a senior capstone project for both the Director, Sarah Butler, and the Producer, Duncan Rawlings. The rest of the crew, comprising of up to an additional 70 students (some of whom you probably know), are all volunteers hoping to gain valuable experience and knowledge that can only be attained by working on such projects. Though the film is short in length (about 10 minutes), the visual scope of it is vast, making it a unique opportunity for us to work at a more epic scale than usual.
What will the donations be used for?
Though our student film is likely to be partly-subsidized by Brigham Young University, we will require additional funds to be able to:
- Pay professional actors to work on our film
- Shoot at hard-to-get locations that will cost us money
- For our Art Department to properly dress and construct sets
- For our Camera and Grip crew to be able to use special equipment such as dollies, cranes and car mounts that will be required to be able to properly tell our story.
We absolutely need to get the $2,200 which we have set as our goal in order to produce this film in the way we have planned, so please be as generous as possible!
How This Works
People like you will promise to donate a certain amount to our production by clicking the "Back This Project" button and putting in their credit card payment information--don't worry, this site is buyer safe and secure (see Kickstarter homepage for more information). Based on the amount you pledge to donate to our film, you will receive a certain reward (see panel on the right).
If we reach our goal of $2,200 by our deadline (February 29), your credit cards will be charged for the amount pledged and the production will directly receive those funds from Kickstarter and you will later receive your promised reward. If we don't reach our goal, however, your cards will not be charged and you will not receive your rewards :(
Thank you so much for your help and support! Please also share this with as many people as you can that you think may also be interested in supporting these student filmmakers by using the Facebook, Twitter or embed links on this page.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
