In the not too distant future, a Seattle DEA agent and veteran of the War in Russia joins a secret CIA program - where an experimental mind control drug is tested on unwitting Americans.
This Kickstarter is to fund the completion of issue #2 of the ten issue sci-fi / crime saga.
The U.S. is at war -- against Russia, and the American people. The country is on the verge of economic collapse and political revolution. Desperate to regain control, the CIA recruits Seattle DEA Agent Brendan Kruge to test an experimental mind control drug on unwitting Americans.
Compelled by his sense of duty to his country, Brendan struggles to keep his life from falling apart as he tries to reconcile his personal beliefs with the security of the nation.
The story is loosely inspired by the true events of MKULTRA - a secret CIA project that took place during the cold war, where experimental drugs (like LSD) and mind control methods were tested on people without their knowledge.
PREVIOUSLY IN NORTH BEND
In chapter one, Brendan Kruge, an undercover Seattle DEA agent, questions Andrew Park, a drug dealer, about an experimental drug stolen from a research lab.
Sam and Annie, chemists contracted by the CIA to synthesize drugs from exotic plants, run tests on their latest sample. During one test, Sam accidentally slices his hand open, causing the drug to spill into his bloodstream.
The U.S. is under siege by the Crusaders, a revolutionary communist party, who are steadily gaining popularity with the public.
Sam wanders the streets in a drug-fueled haze, and crosses paths with Fred, who sees an opportunity to take advantage of Sam's impaired state.
Brendan is visited by CIA Officers Church and Holbrook, who want him to join a secret program to test an experimental mind control drug on unwitting citizens.
COMING UP NEXT IN NORTH BEND #2
Here you can check out a six page preview for North Bend #2. This is just a small look at what's to come in this chapter, which comes in at 32 pages.
Here's a few of the characters we've met so far. There are plenty more to meet -- cops, criminals, victims, and everything in between.
For our rewards, everything will be shipped in sturdy mailers to minimize damage as much as possible. Comics will be bagged and boarded. Prints will be printed on glossy, quality cardstock.

We are looking to raise $2,000, which will all go to finishing the book - coloring, lettering, print costs, and shipping. I personally won't be getting any of the money.
If this campaign really starts slammin', we'll bust out some stretch goals.
Risks and challenges
For the North Bend #1 Kickstarter, we had some scheduling conflicts, which caused a bit of a delay in completing the artwork. Aside from that, we were able to ship all the rewards quickly and with very few issues. We now have a little more experience and have made some changes, which should help us hit our release date for this issue.
We're also further along than we were during the last Kickstarter. Right now, all black and white artwork for #2 is complete. Which means we just have coloring and lettering left to go.
I will continue to haunt your inbox occasionally with updates as things progress, but if you'd like to get in touch, go for it. You can hit me up here or on Twitter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
