Why Virtual Reality?: The Road is a 360 Virtual Reality narrative short film. It’s an immersive glimpse into the lives of human trafficking victims. The film takes place at a moment in transit, where immigrants are coerced into submission by traffickers and they are told they will work against their will. The film follows eight immigrants as they realize they will not be living the life that they came for. This VR experience will put watchers in the center of the tragic situation and allows them to view the story in many different ways, from different perspectives.
Human Labor Trafficking: People often associate human trafficking exclusively with sex workers; however, forced labor is an extremely prevalent aspect of human trafficking. It is often harder to identify than sex trafficking. Immigrants, both documented and undocumented, face a high risk of becoming trafficking victims as they enter the United States. We will portray this situation that immigrants often face as they are smuggled into a new country.
Our goal for this film is to reach a global audience, starting with film festivals that support VR and then to distribute on VR and 360 platforms to make it accessible to as many people as possible.
How We'll Do It: We are collaborating with VR experts who will bring the knowledge and experience needed to make this short. We have a great crew of filmmakers who are passionate about this story. With a combination of cutting edge VR technology and traditional filmmaking techniques, we're excited to deliver an immersive, high-quality movie with a compelling story.
Where the Funds Will Go: Filming in 360 can be a very expensive process but we plan to use our budget efficiently and work with a resourceful crew. These are some of the things your support will go to:

- An expert crew of VR filmmakers
- Actors who can portray these tough roles accurately
- Production Design (sets, props, wardrobe, etc.)
- General production costs
- Post production - Stitching, editing, coloring, sound
- Getting the movie to audiences through film fests and distribution
About the Filmmakers:
Danny Ryan is an award-winning director from New York. As a filmmaker, he seeks to go beyond entertainment and tell stories that impact society. His last film, Pride Fighter, explores the story of a gay MMA fighter. It premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2016 and screened across the US, in Europe and in Asia. The film had a strong positive response from the LGBTQ community and gay athletes struggling to come out. Danny has worked in many facets of the filmmaking industry, in just about every department, on both large and small scale productions. In 2016, he started Bluehaus Productions, a company focusing on VR and narrative film.
Petra Chlpanova is an independent filmmaker, producer and screenwriter based in New York City. She has worked on various facets of the filmmaking process from pre-production and shooting to editing. Born and raised in Slovakia, she understands the challenges of immigration. Her narrative films center around topics such as social problems and humanity. She has recently won the Rena Down Award for her script Crushing.
Chad Cooper is a New York based cinematographer specializing in virtual reality. Chad has shot projects for FOX, PBS, NBC, Google, The Daily Show, American Express, New York Times, Haiti Tourism, History Channel, Macy’s, IBM, Warrior Lacrosse, Sports Illustrated, Verizon, Discovery, Globo, Renaissance Hotels, Sean John, Sky News, and many other large productions.

Risks and challenges
As a director, this is my first full 360 production. I come from a traditional filmmaking background and making a VR film is a very different process.
