"Journeys: Handpan Solo" is my new album, inspired by my travels around the world.
It is the follow up to "Journeys" which was my debut, independently produced album. On Journeys, I brought you music for the Handpan (aka PANart Hang, Halo, Hang Drum, etc.), guitar, didgeridoo, and percussion with a guest singer. It was an amazingly rewarding project... and now I am ready to do it again!!!
This time, "Journeys: Handpan Solo" strips away all of the instrumentation to focus on the handpan. This beautiful instrument has changed my life in so many ways. Since this instrument came into my life, I have been inspired to share it's mesmerizing beauty with as many people as I can. I have taken two Handpans around the world, sharing them in the USA, Europe, North Africa, West Africa, Australia, and Southeast Asia. "Journeys: Handpan Solo" is the compositions inspired by these travels.
I strived to bring my experience, through all of its trials and tribulations, as well as the emotions, and capture it in the sound of this magical instrument. Through my music, I want to connect you with the stories, the amazing natural wonders, the people, the animals and the rainy days that I experienced while traveling the last 2.5 years.
Throughout the compositions for this album, you can close your eyes and drift away, into a calm but peaceful setting by the lake (above), where I composed "Song of the Morning", or be whisked across the Saharan Desert on camel back in "Caravan". If you sit still, you may be able to drop into a deep relaxation while listening to "Temples of Bagan", composed in an ancient temple in the Buddhist country of Myanmar. Or, you can even visit the hustle and bustle of the city in "Cityscapes".
I have all of the songs composed for this album, pre-production is set, and I have studio dates lined up for recording, mixing, and mastering at a professional recording studio in Grand Rapids, MI. I will be going with the same CD manufacturer from my last project to press all of the copies of the album. I have the graphics designer lined up, and a date set with the creator of the Halo (my handpan) to get freshened up and brought into perfect tune. I have worked especially hard the last few months to bring this album to fruition. I have even begun booking a short tour through Europe in September to launch the CD and will follow up with a tour in the US to help support the CD. It feels amazing to see this journey beginning to take shape, but I need your help!
Creating a project like this is an expensive endeavor. From concept to production, there are steps like recording, mixing, mastering, manufacturing, and they all take a lot of time, energy, and money. I need help bringing this project to fruition and making it a reality. I make my living full time as an artist. I live simply and whatever money isn't going towards food, transportation, or putting a roof over my head goes into the creation and sharing of my music. However, I don't have all of the money necessary to bring this project from concept to a physical CD. I need to raise $6,000 in 30 days and I am confident that I will raise it with your support! However, I do need your help, so share this project with your friends as Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing fundraising platform. If I don't meet my goals, the project is not funded.
I have put together some reward packages to share with anyone who helps bring this dream into a reality. I am so incredibly grateful for all of the support that I receive with my music. You may never know what it truly means to me, but I hope to share that gratitude by giving back! Every dollar counts and everyone who donates receives the gift of music, ranging from single track downloads to the full CD, shipped to your door! I have beautiful photos from my journeys for grabs, as Photography is another one of my creative pursuits. I have won some awards with my photography and a personalized print will look great in your own home and will always serve as a reminder of your contribution to this creative project! Or... if you and your friends are feeling very generous and want a live, private concert, that's in the rewards too! Read the reward categories at the side to get the full information on each reward package.
Please remember!!! If you can't support this project with a pledge, you can still support it by helping to spread the word! PLEASE SHARE this project with your friends, family, social media networks (Facebook, Twitter), and however else you can!!!
Are you familiar with how Kickstarter works?
Kickstarter is all-or-nothing. What does this mean? Well... if you make a pledge, your pledge sit's with the others until the end of the thirty days. Nothing is charged to you until the time is up. At the end of the thirty days, if I have met or exceeded my funding goals, the money is charged to your account, Kickstarter takes a small fee, and I receive the money to put towards the recording project. If I don't meet my goals... even if I raise 99% of the money, then the project is not funded and no money changes hands. There is no charge to make a pledge until the project is successful. There are also no hidden fees.
Where does your pledge money go?
All of your pledge money will be put towards bringing this project to fruition! That means:
Studio costs - recording, mixing, mastering, equipment rental, etc.
Production - Any costs associated with the physical production of the CD that will be produced.
Fees - Kickstarter takes a small percentage to maintain this amazing crowdsourcing/fundraising platform!
Rewards - the rewards are a big expense. Production of CDs, photographs, shipping costs, etc.
Remember, 100% of your pledged money goes into this project. If I raise more than my goal, rest-assured that it will go right back into the music, and bringing my music to others just like yourself!
Photo Print Choices for Reward Packages
Final prints will not have watermarks/logos on the picture!
I have many more photo galleries. These are some of my favorites. However, I want everyone to be 100% satisfied with their photos, so if you don't see something you like, let me know and I will direct you to more galleries!
Risks and challenges
As with any project, there will be challenges. These challenges can pose as a risk to the project and it's completion.
The biggest obstacle to this project is reaching my funding goals. My first album was a huge learning experience about what to do and what not to do when working with a creative project like this. Through that project, I built a network to bring the project into reality. This time, I am working with most of that network and some new creative minds to bring you a project that is better, more refined, more polished and more of a reflection of myself as an artist and person.
Once the project is funded, there are more risks, such as delays, etc. However, I have built myself an ample amount of time necessary to bring this project into reality. I have booked a large amount of studio time at a reputable, professional studio, and am working with professional graphics designers and professional CD manufacturers. As long as I keep working towards my goals, there should not be any delays!
That being said, if setbacks do arise, I will work as hard as I can to solve any problems and learn from them. I don't believe in mistakes... just learning experiences!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
