Risks and challenges
WEATHER: "This is England." Let's say everyday could be a rainy day. Crew here are used to it. We'll shoot, rain or shine, and even, a bit of both might help bring the world we are creating to life.
TIME: Shooting a film takes a lot of time, and it is easy to run over schedule. To stay on track, before the shoot takes place, production has set aside time to rehearse complicated scenes and prep shoot days as thoroughly as possible. We have also set aside extra days, in case we do run over schedule, even with the preparation taken place.
CAST: Every actor on board is committed to the project... but when you aren't getting payed, and Danny Boyle offers you a role for ten grand, no one is going to blame you. We already have a solid cast ready to shoot, however, if ever anyone has the chance to bump into any big time director, we have an array of alternate possibilities from our castings.
CREW: There is always that possibility that one of the crew needs to abandon his post to fight crime as the next superhero... in that case, though we are a lightweight team, our crew is ready to go factotum if necessary, and become a skeleton crew. We are blessed to be surrounded with trustworthy friends always ready to give a hand at the last minute... Though I must say, there is a very allegorical link between our Comic Issue and being a SCELETON CREW!
LOCATIONS: The availability of the best locations for our shoot is not always guaranteed, whether arranged on good will or at a very expensive price. The money raised from this campaign will be able to offset some of the ineludible location expenses that we are fighting tooth and nail to have at the best values. However, if a location falls through, we have an incomparably motivated location manager who is ensuring back up locations to fill the spots, as well as having left several days aside in case we need to postpone locations.
TECHNICAL FAILURE: Everyone knows technology isn't foolproof. We have the fortune to be assisted by EAST 15 ACTING SCHOOL FILM MA program who is lending us all the film equipment with £30 million in public and product liability insurance. Equipment goes wrong, and we are covered. Lost of days, we've set aside extra days just in case!
EXTRA COSTS: Calculate the time it will take you to do something and the cost and multiply it by three... "So if I go to the corner store to buy milk, it'll cost me 10 bucks and take me an hour?" Extra and hidden costs are everywhere in film, and when something goes wrong and you are pressed with time, that extra cash is what will save you. We have the grace of having all our equipment supplied for free and a crew that is working out of love of the project, all the same, extra money can be a savior. Ergo, we have built in a buffer in our budget, and aim to use all the excess funds to help promote the film and comics into their full potential: entering festivals and pitching to production companies; promoting and expanding the comic issues press opportunities.
