a new comic book series
The KINETIX are a group of unpopular and unnoticed students at Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School (FDR High), who each live with various challenges that require special attention, needs, medications, and/or physical aides. Health aside, this group of lionhearted teens come to realize that they have the power to unlock special, superhuman skills laying dormant within their own DNA.
Before long, we find our adolescent team of do-gooders secretly fighting against the hidden forces of evil, who threaten the existence of their high school, local community, and even the human race. Meanwhile, their new identities as real life heroes must be kept under wraps, as they face situations in the day-to-day life of regular high school students. Bullies, mean teachers, strict parents, and inter-dimensional villains alike, should beware the hidden powers of...
Rosario Richter: Unable to hear or speak, this young Latina loner stays distracted from hurtful teasing with an obsessive interest in photography and social media. As AFTER-SHOCK, her magnified Vibration Force sends evil hurling in fear!

Bobby Byers: There is nothing typical about this descendant of Chinese and Jewish immigrants, with a passion for athletics. As a misunderstood teen with Type 1 Diabetes, he faces constant bullying. As CYABETES, a teenage cyborg, he defends the powerless!
Joules Joyner: This natural leader and straight-A student was born with no legs and adopted as a newborn. As tough and capable as she is as a high school student, nothing is more impressive that her superhuman arm-strength as DEAD-LIFT...!
Dr. Jamarcus Guttles, PhD.: “Balance lies within us all,” claims the team’s collective tutor and guru, with a relevant, yet very mysterious past... Earning a living as a quiet physics teacher in Zenith, USA- Guttles is on a secret, cosmic mission to find and train the next team of capable beings, our heroes – the only ones who can save us all from the forces of evil.
The BAD GUY
GRAVITRON is the archenemy of The KINETIX. He’s your typical bad guy- if your typical bad guy is a universe unto himself! He is the embodiment of a chaotic, unstable universe- existing only in a celestial form made up primarily of dark matter & dark energy. And he's one Glowing Orb of Gorthon away from complete domination of the Multiverse. If Gravitron obtains this final Green Orb and is able to complete the assembly of his Core Nucleus, life as we know it will be over!
Millions of years ago, before time began, there existed a perfectly balanced Proto-Universe – a monolithic plane of light & darkness, good & evil. However, as the greed of evil began to grow too large – as is its nature to do so – this Proto-Universe expanded and set itself asunder to prevent its own destruction. This created the Multiverse.
At one end of the vast Multiverse is our Milky Way Galaxy, a beacon of bright hope and love. At the other end? Gravitron – the embodiment of pure evil, and a universe unto himself. Through his minions, The Evil Horde, it is his mission to shift the balance of all worlds towards darkness and stamp out every last bit of good.
Every 8,000 cycles our universe comes into contact with a sinkhole to another dimension. It is through this epic portal that the intergalactic Evil Horde can emerge in hopes of finding the Green Glowing Orb of Gorthon on planet Earth – which will give Gravitron ultimate rule over all that exists.
It is during these times that the Multiverse attempts to balance itself by creating its own natural defense mechanism in the form of extremely capable beings that can fend off impending evil and darkness. But, in order to take on such capabilities or superpowers, each of these beings must unknowingly forfeit a “normal” ability of equal value – creating genetic balance – and manifesting itself in the form of a disability. The potential energy stored up because of this disability exhibits itself as a secret superpower known as kinetix, when the time is right. And that time is upon us.

OUR PLAN TO PULL THIS OFF
Our most important goal when it comes to distribution is to get these comic books into the hands of kids, so that they can grow up reading comics with characters like them. The first issues produced will be sent out to the supporters of our Kickstarter campaign. The next round of distribution will be given to schools, libraries, foundations and organizations that serve the communities we're representing. And the final round of distribution will be submitted to local comic book stores for inclusion in their youth sections.
Why This Means SO Much To Us
"I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes more than 32 years ago. Over that time, I've learned to deal with the responsibility and stress of giving myself daily injections, pricking my finger to test my blood sugar levels, counting carbohydrates, managing my highs and lows, etc. But when I was a kid, this way of life wasn’t as easy- or fun. And it’s still not.
As an actor in the public eye, I devote my free time to organizations like the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) as a celebrity ambassador to raise money and awareness for diabetes research. I’ve never been comfortable with the sob story you often hear at fundraising events. I understand it’s to raise money by eliciting sympathy from donors, but I choose to look at my diagnosis as a gift, and to empower young people to do the same. My goal, instead, is to raise the self-esteem and confidence of kids with T1D, instilling in them the idea that they can be and do anything they want to in life- and nothing should get in their way." -AUSTIN BASIS
In a world that is sometimes cruel and unsympathetic- we want to inspire and uplift people, to be grateful that we have the opportunity everyday to make the world a better place, and to turn our perceived weaknesses into our greatest strengths. This is what The KINETIX is all about.
If you have a “disability”, we believe you innately have a greater potential energy than those that don’t have one. You carry that energy with you at all times and have the power to turn it into kinetic energy, and use it for good. The KINETIX isn’t an afterschool special. These are flawed, three-dimensional characters with a full range of emotions. But they don’t get bitter- they make the world better!
People with disabilities are an extremely marginalized community; an overlooked, highly undervalued part of society who’ve been left out of popular culture and entertainment, yet have a perspective of the world around us that is unique, insightful, and powerful. The KINETIX is a story in which that power is a SUPER one... and the time to tell that story is NOW.
Can these kids find their inner strength and overcome their adversity, while still maintaining their uncommon existence? How do people with disabilities assimilate into a society that treats them as "less than"? What's more difficult- having a disability, saving the world, or getting through high school?!

Risks and challenges
+ Creation and Production of 20,000 comic books, and making sure they are all high quality and ready for distribution. From writing to designing to formatting to printing FOUR separate issues of an 8-page comic book, there's a lot that can go wrong and/or complicate that process. But we have a team assembled that is ready to meet those challenges head-on!
+ Telling stories that honor the real life heroes with these disabilities and chronic conditions, so that our vision will have a positive impact on their lives and serve to advance our message of inclusiveness. We plan to reach out to various organizations like the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the National Association of the Deaf, and Autism Speaks to broaden our understanding of the specific issues that those respective communities face. Our stories will address as many of those issues as we can fit into the comic book. Also- as an advocate for JDRF (and diabetes awareness, in general)- Austin hopes to encourage the organization to include the CYABETES issue of The KINETIX in JDRF's "Bag of Hope"- something they send to children who have recently been diagnosed with T1D.
+ Competing with the likes of D.C. and Marvel...! They are industry titans that have ruled the comic book and superhero universe for generations. We are not looking to compete with them, but rather to fill a void that they have left. We believe our perspective is unique and will give voice to a largely unrepresented community among comic book readers, and in the superhero genre at large. Our positive message and Dave Maulbeck's artwork are among the many things that set us apart. Many independent comics have found success over the years- and we plan on being one of them!
+ Meeting the deadlines of production so that we can get our comic books delivered in a timely fashion. We are aiming to be able to distribute the entire limited edition series at the start of the 2018-2019 school year (September) ...just in time to inspire kids everywhere!
