The Queen's Comic Book Legion is a student club I founded in 2012 at Queen's University in Kingston,ON Canada. Over the last four years we've worked collaboratvely on our super hero comic book mini-series Gael Force. Now in honor of the 175th anniversary of our university (25 years older than Canada itself!) we need your support in funding a trade paperback collecting all three of our comic books! It is a unique treasure for alumni and students of Queen's University or Canadian comic book fans in general.
Our series tells a story of teamwork and perseverance as our heroes from diverse backgrounds work together to defeat a mysterious foe threatening to destroy our university. This superhero story blends action, mystery and humor from a student's perspective. We touch upon themes of power, friendship and teamwork. The story was written by 3 students from our club with input from every member and illustrated by 14 artists. Read more about our characters here on our website and our full creator credits here.
What's in the Book
We are pleased to have a forward to the book written by Queen's Alumni BA ’94 BFA ’95 and comic book writer Sam Noir (Monstrosity, Cerebus Low Society, Toronto Comics). Also a forward by me, Brendan Montgomery. On top of the three issues we are collecting there will be five bonus one page origin stories, one for each of our characters. At the end of the book we also have an awesome art gallery featuring art by friends of the club Andrew Thomas, Scott Marshall & Kelly Tindall This makes for a total of 90 full colour pages for you to enjoy!
The comics all already complete and this book is ready to go to the printers so all we need are your pledges to make it happen! We will be printing our book with Marquis in Quebec who are an experienced printer (over 80 years!) with excellent quality. We are also making bookmarks and postcards to include with each book sold. We estimate that printing will take around a month after the end of the kickstarter so you won't have to wait too long to get your copy! Shipping will be via Canada Post and limited to North America.
We have been graciously allowed by Queen's University to make this an official 175th anniversary product using their celebration logos. We will also be donating copies of the book to the Queen's University library and archive as well as the Kingston Frontenac Public Library.
The goal of $1245 CAD covers our printing of the books and extras, as well as shipping. We are a not for profit club and any profit from this project helps fund our continued operations so Queen's students have a group to share their love of comics with. All creators volunteered to contribute to the book as a hobby and for the experience.
Here are some pages from the book showing our various student artists. They may not be as perfect as professionals but we'er sure you'll enjoy the book anyway. More preview pages can be found on our tapastic page.
Risks and challenges
This is our first full book to be published but we have self published individual comic books before so we know our art will print out perfectly. To mitigate any printing issues we've chosen a reputable printer with 80 years of experience. The only risk is their ability to print in a timely manner which we are confident won't be an issue. All the art is complete so there is no risk of creative delays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
