Palatine is a social strategy game set in the declining Roman Republic. Lead a noble family of Rome, maneuvering through politics, economics and war to surpass your rivals. Amass enough power and you can declare yourself dictator for life!
Palatine accommodates 2-4 players (2-6 with the Patrician Edition) and takes about an hour to play. It's a game of strategy, rewarding those who learn its systems, but also a game of chance and social interaction. These features make it well-suited to game groups in search of an experience that has depth but won't punish new players for having experienced friends. The randomness and customizability of its deck also encourages repeat play.
Palatine is available in English, German, Italian and Latin language versions.
Gameplay centers on the dynamic bidding mechanic. Players place influence and denarii tokens on the cards they desire. Players can outbid each other for any given card, but once a bid stands unchallenged, that player acquires the card.
Cards allow players to take a wide range of actions, from leading military campaigns to building great public works to scandalizing another player with gossip. A wise player will acquire cards that are not only useful themselves, but useful in concert with each other.
A player can win one of two ways: by earning the loyalty of enough Roman legions to storm the capitol, or by possessing the greatest influence when the deck runs out. These differing goals deepen the game's strategy as players must beware rivals pursuing an alternative plan.

Palatine was designed by Zeke Abuhoff as part of the game design collective Greater Gotham. Greater Gotham is a tiny, independent organization, and cannot afford to run a large print of this game. Only with your help, sweet people of Kickstarter, will this game get made!
As a small outfit assembling a limited run, we can't offer the lowest prices or the fanciest game components, but we can assure you that copies shipped will be of good quality, with a novel and engaging game design to engage your brain.

Risks and challenges
The game design and art production are complete, so we don't expect any difficulty in that regard.
Fulfillment delays may result from the translation process for non-English copies or from the production and shipping process. As our manufacturer, the Game Crafter, usually deals effectively with these challenges, we feel delays are unlikely to be significant.
Materials produced by the Game Crafter are of good quality, but printing on some cards or mats may drift a little. Borders may vary in thickness by a matter of millimeters, but we do not expect central information or artwork to be affected.
We completed a similar campaign last year (Tide of Battle) and fulfilled rewards with little to no difficulty. With that experience guiding us, we expect a smooth fulfillment process with this campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
