We’re two small-town guys with a big dream... Crafted in Santa Cruz
A community event organizer and a designer, we want to help the hand-crafted scene in our community spread from niche market to mainstream.
We plan to do that through the creation of an apparel line with custom-designs featuring the different types of makers in our beach town of Santa Cruz, California. By wearing one of these shirts, you’re helping to tell the story of that maker. In addition, a portion of each dollar made after the Kickstarter campaign will go to promoting those artisans that call our town home.
We already have four awesome designs for the apparel: hand-sketched icons of craft beer, artisanal sipping chocolate, hand-crafted guitars, and The Classic — our Crafted in Santa Cruz logo.
Why Santa Cruz?
We may be a little biased, but we think Santa Cruz is a pretty cool place.
- The natural beauty here is awe-inspiring. We have the world-renowned Monterey Bay to the south and redwood forests to the north.
- Our culture is unique and fosters innovation and exploration. We boast nine craft breweries (and that number is growing), over 70 wineries and tasting rooms throughout the Santa Cruz Mountains, an organic, small-batch distillery, a wide selection of locally grown and raised artisanal food, woodworkers, metalsmiths, leather craftsman, and more.
- Most importantly to us, this is our home, and we care deeply about the people here who have the courage to pursue their art. Perhaps by sporting one of our t-shirts you can inspire people in your own town to support hand-crafted goods and the people behind them.
Why Our Community of Makers Needs Your Help
Like most places, it’s hard to make enough money to support yourself here as a craftsperson. It’s also not uncommon for these passionate folks to invest most of their life-savings into business ventures because they believe so strongly in their craft and want to share it with the world.
We want to promote these business ventures because we believe that communities full of people doing what they love are happier, safer, and stronger.
From undiscovered craft brewers to eco-conscious artists creating hand-carved surfboards from reclaimed wood, we want to help promote the maker-community through the sale of t-shirts, posters, stickers, and eventually an entire line of custom apparel — if we can raise the funds to buy our first shirts and cover printing costs.
Here’s what we’re aiming for:
First goal: Raise $5,000 so we can buy enough inventory to open up our online store and to place our apparel in retail locations.
Second goal: Raise enough to buy a really cool trade show type stand and display so we can sell our apparel at local fairs and outdoor events.
Stretch goal: Raise enough to get a darn cool vehicle that we can transform into a mobile store where we can sell our shirts and other locally crafted products.

Thank you so much for your support!
Risks and challenges
We have done a lot of pre-work and have experience screen printing, so you can rest assured that the shirts, posters, and stickers will all look awesome. The only real issue we can foresee is that the shirts or stickers could take slightly longer to make than anticipated but we're pretty confident that we can craft all the apparel on time.
We're also not only asking for your help but have reached out to all our connections in the community to make this a success. We are really putting our reputations on the line. Our worst fear is that we'll let our community down - the community that has supported us in this creative endeavor.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
