4 Cigarettes for Breakfast
A short film to be made by first year film students at Falmouth University students. This is our second project this year, to be made by Sam Mclean (director), Sidney Janicki (writer), Luke Smith (producer), Alida Dice (cinematographer), James Burdon (editor) and Georgia Lomax (sound designer).
The film will be about a detective who has uncovered a government conspiracy surrounding the local docks, and his attempts to bring this to the public which ultimately fail. The themes explored are paranoia, obsession and absurdism.
What makes our idea unique is the way we want to present it - in 4 different genres spanning 75 seconds each over our allocated 5 minutes.
we discover that the detective has uncovered a conspiracy and that it is taking control of his life
he goes home, we get a glimpse of his family life and how it’s been affected by his obsession
our protagonist’s paranoia reaches a climax when he is visited by a government employee
Modern stage play
he escapes and arrives at the local newspaper’s offices where he deposits his findings to be published. We discover that all his work was for nothing, the government employee enters the room and takes the files with him
Risks and challenges
We have a 10 week timeline, including 4 weeks pre-production, 2 weeks to shoot, 3 weeks to edit and 1 week of self reflection for all final changes.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
