About this project
(We've reached our goal, but any funds we receive from here on out will go towards additional travel costs, equipment, etc. So please keep donating and getting rewards from us! We want to make so many t-shirts!)
Human trafficking is the kind of thing you can't un-hear or un-know. Try as you might, the tragedy of hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children being beaten, and coerced into commercial sex grips you and refuses to be ignored. In 2010 a conglomeration of passionate people came together with one common goal: make a difference in the landscape of human trafficking.
We recognized early on that there were many organizations in existence dedicated to fighting human trafficking, but most of them were awareness campaigns or groups dedicated to rescuing victims and providing them with aftercare. No one, it seemed, was really addressing the root of the problem: the demand.
This is where we felt we belonged; we belonged in the muck and mess of the lives of the those who were arrested for purchasing prostituted men, women, and children. This is why we are leaving in May to record these men's stories, to shed light on their darkness and seek to understand how a person gets from point "A" to point "Z".
Our purpose is not to demonize or exploit these men, but simply let their stories speak for themselves, and see if we can't connect the dots and uncover some common themes.
Along the way we will also be speaking with experts on domestic sex trafficking and neuro-psychologists who have explored the deep and tragic links between sexuality, power, and aggression as it relates to pornography and the sexual exploitation of women in mainstream media.
So we invite you to join us, and enable us to embark on this journey. We are asking for $6,000 in order to travel this summer and film, but any support over our goal would be greatly appreciated. We anticipate many unanticipated costs. We at Hope for the Voiceless thank you in advance for your support as we seek to engage in this conversation and add the voices of the men who stoke the fire.
