We want to tell the story of the demand for human sex trafficking from the men who buy prostituted women and girls. Read more
This project was successfully funded on April 24, 2012.
About this project
(We've reached our goal, but any funds we receive from here on out will go towards additional travel costs, equipment, etc. So please keep donating and getting rewards from us! We want to make so many t-shirts!)
Human trafficking is the kind of thing you can't un-hear or un-know. Try as you might, the tragedy of hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children being beaten, and coerced into commercial sex grips you and refuses to be ignored. In 2010 a conglomeration of passionate people came together with one common goal: make a difference in the landscape of human trafficking.
We recognized early on that there were many organizations in existence dedicated to fighting human trafficking, but most of them were awareness campaigns or groups dedicated to rescuing victims and providing them with aftercare. No one, it seemed, was really addressing the root of the problem: the demand.
This is where we felt we belonged; we belonged in the muck and mess of the lives of the those who were arrested for purchasing prostituted men, women, and children. This is why we are leaving in May to record these men's stories, to shed light on their darkness and seek to understand how a person gets from point "A" to point "Z".
Our purpose is not to demonize or exploit these men, but simply let their stories speak for themselves, and see if we can't connect the dots and uncover some common themes.
Along the way we will also be speaking with experts on domestic sex trafficking and neuro-psychologists who have explored the deep and tragic links between sexuality, power, and aggression as it relates to pornography and the sexual exploitation of women in mainstream media.
So we invite you to join us, and enable us to embark on this journey. We are asking for $6,000 in order to travel this summer and film, but any support over our goal would be greatly appreciated. We anticipate many unanticipated costs. We at Hope for the Voiceless thank you in advance for your support as we seek to engage in this conversation and add the voices of the men who stoke the fire.

Well, due to the all-or-nothing nature of Kickstarter we needed to think carefully about an attainable funding goal that would still allow us to pull off our documentary. That's why we decided to set our goal at $6,000. HOWEVER, every dollar over our goal will enable us to travel further and interview more people, resulting in a BETTER FILM! So please, keep donating if you believe in this cause. :)
According to the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA):
"[...] the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery or practices similar to slavery, or servitude"
In essence, human trafficking is a form of exploitation, often through the commercial sex industry, or forced labor. It happens all over the world, including America, and is currently the second highest grossing illegal industry behind the sale of drugs, and just ahead of the sale of arms.
Once we're done filming we'll begin the editing process to get the documentary ready for public viewing. After that, we'll promote, promote, promote. We want as many people to see this film as possible, whether that means extensive touring and screenings, or passing DVD's out on the street, it will be seen!
