What is the Tulsa Renaissance?
There is nothing new under the sun. The same goes for the notes of music, the strokes of a paintbrush, or the movement and passion felt in a dancers step. We learn from the past and build for the future. In this humble city of Tulsa, in the belt buckle of the country, an abundance of people are shining their light for the world to see. Creativity is found from the heart of downtown to the Recesses of the south side; stretching forth to the hallways of an educational center on the north side, combining the power of education and recreation to reach the youth of the city. Love and Unity are rising up, and our goal with this documentary project is to capture the steps of progress that are filling the streets of Tulsa.
We started off filming and performing in a weeklong array of events. Then more people became interested. A month and a half later we are still uncovering new talent and hearts creating within our city limits. Our aim in the grand scheme is to present one solid documentary and an accompanying soundtrack of our journey through learning the different artistic forms present in the streets of Tulsa. From the legendary Church Studios, to the modern stage of the Guthrie Green, from hip hop lyricists to break dancers, acoustic singer songwriters to painters and graffiti artists; we are showcasing the talent of our city. You will see studio sessions, live performances, music video sets, big bands, jazz singers, b boy jams, African dance and much more.
We are asking that you help sponsor this project so that we can give the people of Tulsa something that they can be proud of. The budget for equipment, paying the staff backpay plus filming music videos, location rentals, studio time, hiring a video editor for the final edits, hiring two Tulsa University Music Majors to score the project, and distribution is estimated at $25,745. I am asking for a portion of that to be raised through this kickstarter campaign.
Most of these talents in our city are freely giving of their greatness. I see particular talents being destined to leave a great mark on this Earth. Let’s help lift them as one city, as one people.
The potential of this project is that it will make room for future projects as the talent in Tulsa matures. Artists are arising with ideas of making Tulsa a major market for the arts. From movies, to stage plays, poetry slams, to community rebuilding, the Tulsa scene is thriving with creative geniuses. Join us as we aim to take Tulsa beyond Tulsa.

Risks and challenges
The risks and challenges that come with completing this project start with finances. We started with nothing, and have been able to piece together what we have so far. While lack of funds has caused our team to be a bit more creative, having those finances already in place would cause our creativity to focus solely on the project at hand.
Another challenge is the time frame of the project. Being that we have an extremely low budget thus far, I believe this causes members to not give their all. Again, with finances in place, it gives the team an incentive to give their best and finish ahead of schedule.
With that being said, the team on this project has worked very hard, because they believe in this project. We have put in work to get to sets, find ways to purchase equipment needed, and even speak with organizations in our town to give small donations.
While I understand obstacles are a part of life, I also believe in the artists within the documentary. So much so I would give up my chance to perform more often to work on this project. I am a featured artist as well, and I believe we as creators of music, art, dance, and poet need people to take risks and stand up for our art.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
