About this project
Hi everyone, this is Glen Alden again from Alden Carbon (http://alden-designs.com) and you may have seen our last Kickstarter project where we launched an all carbon fiber bike tire lever that was really popular. We primarily make carbon fiber parts for the cycling and triathlon market, but our other sporting friends that we needed to create a cool product for the golf market, so here we are again.
With that being said, here we are with a new golf divot tool. I know what you are thinking, not another golf ball divot tool, isn't there enough designs in the world already?
Well, the answer would be yes, but this is not just a plain old divot tool, this is a full carbon fiber divot tool that is designed to be the coolest tool you will put in your pocket.
This new tool is not only a divot repair tool but it also incorporates a club stand feature, as well as a club face and groove cleaning feature.
But the best thing about this new tool is the fact that it rotates closed when not in use to create the sleekest package you will ever put in your pocket or golf bag. As you will see from the included pictures and video, when the tool is in the closed position there is no chance of the divot forks digging into your leg as you are walking or bending over during your day out on the course like most other divot tools, but spins open easily when you need it.
This tool just might be your new favorite golf tool and you will want to show all your friends once you have it. Not only is it made from one of the lightest and strongest hi-tech materials on the planet, but the design of the tool, and the overall size and weight will just amaze you.
So yes, it is just another divot tool, but the difference is it is the coolest looking hi-tech tool that will make you want to use it as much as you can. Not only will you want one in your golf bag, but you just might want an extra one to sit on your desk at work or play just to have something this cool to be amazed at. I know we might be a little biased, but when we were developing this tool, we knew it would be a neat little tool, but when we actually made a few up for testing, and to give to friends to test for us, that is when we really knew how great this was. It looks pretty cool in pictures, but when you put it in your hands to check it out, it becomes really cool and you just cannot put it down, it almost becomes a fidgeting device.
Features of the tool:
100% carbon fiber construction using both unidirectional carbon fiber in the middle for maximum strength against flexing and a twill pattern carbon fiber for the top and bottom layers for twisting strength and a great looking outer finish.
This tool has a high grade quality aluminum pivoting binding screw set for exceptional strength and corrosion resistance. This screw will not rust or corrode even in the wettest or sweatiest conditions. This screw is what holds the two pieces of carbon fiber together for optimum pivoting action.
A rubber compression washer made from the best EPDM material that will last the life of the tool. This is the feature that allows the two pieces of the carbon fiber to maintain a nice snug fit against each others while allowing the two halves to spin open and closed easily when needed.
A nickel plated 1" (25mm) diameter key ring is also included so you can put this tool on your key chain if you like.
This tool is only 2.625" (~67mm) long X 7/8" (`22mm) wide X 5/16" (~8mm) when rotated closed and when opened is 4" (100mm) long.

How Your Funds Will be Used:
* Carbon fiber pre-preg material.
* Machining fixture plate and part clamping system for the CNC machining of the tool.
* Machining cutters for cutting the carbon fiber divot tools. Carbon fiber is very abrasive and rough on tools.
* Vacuum bagging materials for creating the carbon fiber plate that the divot tool shape come from. We lay up our own carbon fiber plate to allow us to customize the thickness and strength of the tool.
* Packaging and shipping supplies.
A Word on Shipping Costs:
We wanted to mention a word on the shipping cost for this product as well.
Based on our other recent Kickstarter project where we were shipping worldwide, we realized that the shipping costs outside of the US needed to be better planned for as there is no low cost worldwide shipping method. Therefore, those located outside of the US, please be aware that the shipping cost is the best we can do.

Risks and challenges
Like all projects, there are always risks involved in trying to bring a new project to market. Recently, we had a successful carbon fiber bike tire lever here on Kickstarter and learned there is a lot of extra work in fitting a new project into our existing product line, so this project would be no different.
Like every project on Kickstarter, the unknown of how the project will be received and the total volume of parts that would need to be produced is the biggest factor in determining the delivery time frame.
We now have two CNC machines to produce our carbon fiber components and believe we are ready for this project. Our biggest challenge will be to anticipate the demand (hopefully) and plan it into our overall product schedule.
