The first book in the series: Your Guide to Caribbean food in the UK
From the Caribbean islands to Miami, New York, Toronto and London - Rice n Peas, Roti, Curry Goat and Jerk Chicken are rising in popularity. Neighbourhoods across these cities all have popular outlets, and have done for decades - but who are the people behind these places?
Belly Full seeks to find out.
Belly Full takes you on a journey across the UK, with stories that begin as far back as the 1950s. Whether it's in London, Liverpool or Leeds, you quickly realise these places are so much more than quick pitstops for food. These establishments mean so much to their local communities, not to mention that the families and people behind them are local legends in their own right.
As insight to Afro-Caribbean food still lags behind other regions cuisines and as these places and people were so often overlooked in the telling of their areas' histories, I thought I would take on the challenge and try my hand at telling their stories about their food history and culture.

WHATS IN THE BOOK?!
An exciting journey across the UK. This 1st edition features profiles of over 60 locations of Caribbean heritage (from cafes and butchers to takeouts and diners, the people behind them), and of course their stories - everything a real foodie needs to know.
The first book is done - finished! My Belly truly is Full!
However, the topic seems a bit too niche for big name publishers, so we're taking things into our own hands. We wanted to be able to work with a high quality printing firm, which will lower costs and make the books more affordable, and hire a pro design studio to have the best finish possible.
Our dream is to have Belly Full available in bookstores across the world as soon as possible, for present and future generations to learn about this rich and important part of British culture. One day we hope to have a whole series of foodie books available, spreading the word of good food.
The community of Kickstarter makes this dream possible.
Tezeta (ትዝታ) derives from the Amharic word, Tizita, a musical phrase in the East African language that connotes nostalgia and the idea of "never forgetting."
Tezeta Press is an independent publishing company based in London and Johannesburg dedicated to under-represented ideas, history and culture.
About the Author and Photographer
Riaz Philips, 26, born in London and raised between Islington and Hackney, is one half of Tezeta press, alongside native Zimbabwean, Zandile Nkomo. Having lived in China and studied in London and Oxford, one thing was always at the centre of discussion - where's the next meal?! The current Belly Full project aims to help push African and Caribbean food to the forefront of food cuisine.
