Sir Nighty Knight
Sir Nighty Knight is an interactive children's book app that tells the story of a goofball knight and his journey to save a kingdom.
“Greetings citizens of the interweb!”
“I am the indescribably magnificent Sir Nighty Knight, Knight of The Kids Table, Keeper of The Magic Word, Member of The Order of Snooz and general good deed do-er. While it is normally my role to aid those in peril, it has fallen upon me to ask you for your assistance.”
“The Brothers Fullerton of Pixel Boy Studio have undertaken a most noble quest; to create and publish my glorious legend, so that all the world may learn from my examples of loyalty, courage, honor and excellent hygiene.”
We are Lee and Mark Fullerton (a.k.a Pixel Boy Studio). We have an exciting, fun story; a writer and a programmer; and we're the artists creating the 3D illustrations...so, we figured we could do this app ourselves. Our initial plan is to develop a 22-page interactive picture book app (ages 1-4) for the iOS platform on the iPad and the Kindle Fire with the hope of releasing it for other tablet devices(Nook) if we exceed our first goal of funding. Our second goal is to publish the book in a hardbound printed format with a book printer/publisher that we've worked with in the past. Pixel Boy will also be creating a book trailer on YouTube. We will launch the app in September (2012) and the printed book in October/November (2012).
Sir Nighty Knight is an adventurous and whimsical story about a knight who rides his goat across the The Land of Zeez. Along the way he learns the value of having a good sense of humor, to stay away from sleeping giants and that dragons need their beauty sleep.
The story will have interactive touch points for the kids to discover sounds, additional narrative and voice-over. Also, the kids will have an option to slowly learn a song that Sir Nighty sings throughout the book.
The story has already been completely written; previewed in focus groups and given the thumbs-up from a professor of children's literature. We're receiving incredible feedback! All the book pages have been completely pencil roughed (see examples below). All the characters have been developed in 3D (modeled/textured and some are rigged for posing). We're using Modo 601, ZBrush 4R3, Vue Infinite 10 and Adobe Creative Suite CS5. The cover and two interior pages are completed at this point and we're moving full steam ahead! Ye Gads ye knights!!
We have contributed our own time and money into this project and now, truly need your contributions to carry it through. All the money we receive from Kickstarter will go completely into the production of this app/book project. We will have to turn down paying jobs in order to work for three months on this awesome book project. We need to eat (but mac n' cheese will do). We are hiring our amazing programmer friend, Dan Newman, to code everything and we need to pay David Sherman for writing such a great story. Also, a good portion of the funds will go towards voice-over and music. Our budget has been triple-checked, and we are very prepared for this journey.
Up to $7500: 'Hero Offerings' This is our minimum funding objective. This money will allow us to complete an interactive children's book app for the iPad and Kindle Fire devices. Funds that exceed this goal will go into creating more interactivity and developing the story for other tablet devices.
More than $19,000: 'Medieval Might' This is our "stretch" funding goal. We embrace the digital age but don't want to replace printed books. Unfortunately, quality books are expensive to print. This stretch goal would allow us to develop the digital format into a hardback printed version for bookstores and online sales. The 10"x 8" book will have 32 pages. The final funding level will affect the print run (minimum 2,500--$10,000). We'll add a wrap-around cover and possibly foil stamping with extra funds.
Who are we?
Pixel Boy Studio,
Inc.® was founded in 2006. We're a two-brother team of illustrators based in
Chicago, known for our creativity and high-quality work. Before
venturing into 3D illustration six years ago, the two of us worked in
the advertising industry on national accounts with 35-plus years of combined experience. Our collaborative illustration, art direction and print/packaging production
background has given us the necessary skill-set for developing
innovative directions for children’s books -- we're truly excited
to be on this venture.
Our illustration shop has created comic books, video games, advertising, toys, packaging, posters, logos, character development and educational children’s books. Our latest children's picture book release is 'Baseball in the Bedroom' written by Julie Kicklighter. We've worked on projects for Fisher-Price, Sports Illustrated Kids, McGraw Hill Publishing, Houghton Mifflin and many others.
Also, we've partnered with David Sherman, a comedic writer, singer and musician, to help develop the music/song and storyline. He has studied improvisation and writing at Second City, I.O., Annoyance Theater and has a bachelors degree in literature. In addition to appearing in national and local commercials, he has performed at multiple Chicago theaters including Royal George, Second City, I. O. and the touring children’s theater company, American Eagle. He has written for The Annoyance Theater and for The Swing Shift Orchestra Radio Hour.
"Will you help The Brothers Fullerton achieve their goal? We ask with our
hearts full of gratitude in anticipation of your gracious beneficence.
Until next we meet I remain your humble
- The Stupendous Sir Nighty Knight
