Great question! We've been getting this one a lot.
Both apps are great contributions to the space:
Ahli helps you find other Muslims around you with whom you can then meet up with and pray! That's amazing! Prayer in jama'ah for the 5 obligatory prayers is rewarded far above than that of just praying on your own.
Pillar allows you to create dynamic "prayer sessions", i.e. "We will be holding prayer at this date, time, and location."
These are both great concepts, but we feel that the underlying problem is still not being addressed:
The problem is less *who* to pray with, and more *where* to pray. We feel that if we can have *reliable* musallahs conveniently located wherever you happen to be, the other associated issues issues - such as that of who to pray with, or when to meet and pray - will take care of themselves.
We reached this conclusion after vigorously surveying hundreds of people about their problems when it came to prayer. The number one issue was always that of not having a convenient place to pray. With Musallah, we aim to tackle this issue, first and foremost.
