Fond of Alumni
We are Sophie and Fanny, two young graphic designers that make the publication Fond. We felt a need for a publication that raised issues and questions around design that weren’t or couldn’t be addressed in the classroom or studio. We began making it as a self initiated project whilst at university, where the school facilities (screen and riso printing) made it possible for us to print with the tactile finish that we love, for cheap.
We get directly in touch with designers and ask for their personal opinions and experiences on our topic. We then write up the articles and design them alongside personal accounts, documents, photographs and illustrations, we commission from our talented network. In the past issues we have focused on editorial design, typography and internships. And then we graduated…
Now, we no longer have access to the facilities, people and spaces that were so at hand as a student. This has had two effects. Never before has it been more urgent for us to talk about the experiences of an ex-student, a graduate and alumnus. And never before has it been so difficult to print.
This is where we need your help. We would love to distribute a printed version of issue 4, but we ask you for donations. By using Kickstarter we hope to create a print on demand service. We really want to give back to all those who donate, and this is why we’re suggesting that you donate €8/£6.50. This will cover the cost of the printing a copy which will become yours. For this to be possible though we need to reach our minimum target of 25 copies, €200. This means a minimum of 25 people donating €8 to purchase issue 4, Fond of Alumni.
As a little extra, and surprise for those who donate, we aim to print the cover of this issue using the press you can see below. It's another new challenge for us, and we hope to pleasantly surprise you with the results!
Please share this link and send it to any friends that you think might be interested in what we have collected and are eager to share!
Risks and challenges
Lacking funding to have the publication printed in the tactile way that we aspire to, as well as distributing it to the outlets that we want – however by receiving the financial support from you we can overcome this!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
