Fences is a tile-laying game in which you are a farmer trying to build fields for your animals. The players place farm tiles one at a time, each turn. There are fields for cows, meadows for sheep, and mud holes for pigs. The farms grow with each tile and, after many tiles have been played, are closed in completely by fences. You are trying to collect as many animals as you can. The players earn points by building barns on farms they own. Every animal you enclose is worth points, and double if you fence in only one type of animal in the field. Completing a farm, even one you don’t own, can also score points. Careful though, you can only afford to maintain a limited number of fields. The player with the most points at the end of the game is the most successful farmer. May the best farmer win.

We are Tim Forbis and Adam Collins. We founded Bearded Board Games due to our enjoyment of playing games on our lunch hour. We decided to start making our own games, and using our other coworkers as playtesters. Fences is our first, of hopefully many, board games to come. We are excited to bring our first game to market, and hope that you not only enjoy it, but will follow us as we roll out more games and expansions in the coming months and years.
In the box, you will receive 84 tiles and wooden farmhouses for all the unlocked players, the rulebook, all the unlocked Farmer Profile Cards. If you pledge at certain levels, you will get your name printed inside the lid as a thank you from us.
Each player gets a farmer profile card with some bonus point-scoring opportunities to use throughout the game. Some farmers get points for finishing fields with specific animals, while other farmers get points for finishing fields without specific animals. Some farmers score points for closing small fields, others for big fields. Each player always has two tiles to choose from. The player adds his/her tile to expand one or more of the existing fields and builds a barn in a field if it is currently unowned. Every time a field is finished by completely enclosing the animals within fences, it is scored. One farmer gets points for closing it, and the farmer that owns it get points for owning the animals inside. The barn is returned to the owner so that it can be played again. After all the tiles are played, the farmer with the most points is the winner.

Risks and challenges
We started off making games as a fun way to pass lunch at work with our coworkers. Once we figured out that we might have something, we took to reading blogs, listening to podcasts, joining Facebook groups, and setting up meetings with other designers to try and make our game and our Kickstarter the best we can. This is our first, of hopefully many, game. We have a few more in the chute and hope that this one is successful so that we can bring more. We had to overcome financial issues, setbacks due to lack of information, and much more to reach this point.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
